MW2 An “Immense Disappointment”

Richard Morgan, the guy who’s penning the script for Crysis 2, has spoken out on the competition.  Well, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, anyway.  Speaking frankly to CVG, Morgan said Infinity Ward’s latest shooter was “an immense disappointment”

“It was a massive stepdown from CoD4,” he continued. “What I thought when I played it was, ‘Jesus guys, what have you been doing? You’ve not ramped anything up. The story is worse and the game doesn’t really hang together, it’s just a bunch of mission levels.'”

The debate over the storytelling merit of Modern Warfare 2 continues to rage even today, and on a personal level I agree with Morgan entirely.  “It made no sense,” he continued. “It was totally implausible. It doesn’t resolve. Basically, all the things that bad storytelling does. I just think they were way too impressed with themselves and that’s always a danger. It’s just unfortunate.”

The author does have nice things to say about Uncharted 2, though. “Those guys went back and look[ed] at the first game,” he said. “Everything that didn’t work very well, they fixed or ramped up or did something with.  They really took it to a new place.”

Continuing to rate Naughty Dog’s epic action adventure, Morgan said “you can honestly say to people if you played the first game, the second one is the same but better. Modern Warfare 2 is the same but… way worse. And it cost more money.”

We’re just hoping Crysis 2 lives up to its expectations…
