Need an antidote to all of today’s Kinect news? How about half an hour of two Germans playing with Sony’s Move? The German gaming mag GamersGlobal have spent some quality time with Move playing the Sports Champions and Move Party games. They are on-screen while showing the gameplay so you can judge for yourselves whether there is lag and how bad it is.
As well as the gameplay, including archery, gladiator combat, disc golf and volleyball, you can see examples of the in-game calibration that is required and a side-by-side size comparison of the Move versus the Wiimote.
Of course, if you can understand German better than me you will get more out of it. I think in their conclusion they say that Move is better than the Wiimote with Motion Plus.

Yeah! same here – DailyMotion video framerate goes as soon as anything starts moving too quickly on screen, i.e. when they start to play anything.

Looks good, very little lag as far as I could see, especially when using the bow and arrow game and the games near the end which required pretty quick movement and fast reactions. It also worked well when the one guy was using his hand to try and block the Camera from seeing the wand – move didn’t seem to miss a beat.
Now if there was only a reason for me to be remotely excited by motion control

Move Party seems fun enough I guess, but Sport Champions looks bad IMO. Table tennis looks ok but other than that it seems a bit all over the place, and definitely lacks the charm that Wii Sports has. I’m looking forward to Move, but not really interested in Sports Champions at the moment.

Exactly my thoughts. We’ll be buying Move, but not for this.

Yea, I think MS got it right just putting out a Wii sports clone as their lead title, this seems like a mish mash of different sports and styles with no real charm or consistancy. We’ll see though… maybe they’ll anounce a bunch of other sports that tie everything together or something

I have exactly same thoughts. I like the funny style of Move Party, but the graphics and art, almost everything (ugly guys and ladies with creepy bodies) in Sports Champions looks awfully and generic to me. :(

I agree – it works best when you can really see the one to one tracking on screen. So to some extent in the table tennis, but MovePaty just works better due to the overlay onto the video feed.

The lag looks pretty minimal, especially compared to Kinect. It does look a lot more user friendly.

I thought it looked pretty awful when they were doing the gladiator fighting. Everything was jerky and all over the place, couldn’t tell if it was tech issues or just becaus the guys were moving alot/ were rubbish.

I agree, you can’t tell from that how good the Move is. Just slash and hope stuff.

Like Kinect, the games are very WiiHD looking but that’s no bad thing if you like these sort of titles. However, the lack of lag is impressing me. Especially when he’s swatting things with the fly swatter thingie. It’s like lightning!
When it comes down to it, if developers manage to incorporate motion control into PSN or full-sized games and it adds something to the adventure then count me in. If not, I’m fine with my DS3 controller.

move party can’t be used as lag reference in this particular video because we are only shown the ey etoy feed an not the actual person doing the movement.

I thought Table Tennis played the best of the sports games. The archery might have been more impressive with moving targets.
Overall very casual stuff indeed but once again Sony provide real footage to back up their tech, something we’ve yet to see from kinect. Later maybe..

Un:moved as yet, for sure it has tech content but it lacks
an appealing style. The player representations on the wii may
have been a little basic but they brought coherence to Nintys brand. Sony needs something similarly strong, if it wishes to
embrace the more general gamer. That said, RDR + Move… Win!
