More ‘HD Classics’ Coming To PS3

After the God of War Collection, which by all accounts sold rather well, Sony went looking further afield for more inspiration, more PS2-era games to reboot, remix and redo in HD.  Of course, we all know about the Sly Cooper pack, but there’s also the nuggets we’ve heard about the Team Ico Collection and the notion that Sony themselves are courting ideas from the public.

But, back to that Sly Cooper pack, which appears to be pushing a brand new branding for Sony – ‘Classics HD’ – reproduced below.

See?  Whether or not this is intended to be used down the line is not really that important right now, the fact is that a) the box-art is real, and b) Sony are confident enough in the success of this particular remake to consider branding it.  The killer would be if the God of War Collection came out with a new box-art complete with the same graphics at the top of the cover, but that would just be icing on the cake.

So, God of War, Sly Cooper and, hopefully, Ico and Shadow.  Hopes are high then that the publisher will continue to plunder the PS2’s back catalogue, crate digging for the best the console had to offer and tarting everything up in a nice high-definition, 60 fps sheen.  I’d kill for a touch up job on Gran Turismo 4 by the way, guys, if you’re stuck for something to do in-between Sly and Ico…

  1. GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas please.

Oh, and a HD collection of the PS2 Burnout games would be lovely too. Oh, and Devil May Cry 1, 2 and 3. Oh, and the Ratchet and Clank games. I could go on all day.

  2. I’d like a HD remoke of Timesplitters 2, The Getaway (just the first one) and GTA3.

    • Timesplitters and Final Fantasy collections pl0x!

  3. Timesplitters 1 2 and 3 remastered on 1 disk would be awesome.
    Jak 1, 2, 3 and X
    Ratchet and Clank PS2 Games
Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 and 3 (1 being the Gamecube version)
ICO and Shadow of the Colossus
Grand Theft Auto 3, VC and San Andreas
    Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2
    Final Fantasy 10 and 12
Okami (the art style would be eye popping)
The PS2 Prince of Persia Games
    Dark Cloud 1 and 2
    The Hitman Games
    Max Payne 1 and 2
    The Splinter Cell Games

There are 100ds of Hours of Classic Gaming Fun there! They would all look amazing in HD and with trophy support to top it all off I can see them selling well.

    • Personally, if I were Sony I’d cross reference metacritic averages with sales figures, take the top 10 or 20 games that were released as part of a series on the PS2 and get them all remastered and flog them. It would be a cheap easy way of 1) dramatically increasing the number of Games released on the PS3 2) dramatically increase the PS3s metacritic average 3) Get loads of exclusive PS3 games reviewed – giving PS3 loads more press time and a higher apperance of activity on teh PS3 compared to the competition and 4) get pretty decent sales for very little dev time, effort and cost

      • There’s something cold and methodical in this approach and I really like it – it just makes really good sense.

      • I like the way you think….

      • The PS2 has such a strong back catalogue and Sony such a good relationship with 3rd parties that this is a massive opportunity to make everyone some money at a difficult economic time and really give the PS3 a shot in the arm.

The Sly cooper collection was a good choice for this summer as one of the games is in 3D and that’s Sony’s big push at the moment. Next they need to focus on getting some RPGs out there as they really sold the PS2 and there simply aren’t enough of them on the PS3.

Sometimes I wish I could dictate what games Sony should be making as Sony have so many quality studios that they could simply put out a AAA exclusive in every genre every 3 years.

    • Timesplitters 1 2 and 3 remastered on 1 disk
      Jak 1, 2, 3
      Ratchet and Clank PS2 Games
ICO and Shadow of the Colossus
Grand Theft Auto 3, VC and San Andreas
      Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2
      Final Fantasy 10
The PS2 Prince of Persia Games
The Hitman Games (Blood Money in particular)

Just shortened the list into what I’d like to see (you actually named all the Classics I want).

  4. The first 4 Ratchet and Clanks! that’s what they need! =D

  5. AirBlade, War of the Monsters, GTA3 A-Spec, BLACK, FFXII, Beyond Good & Evil, blimy the list is endless. Of course, I think SONY should release this New HD series as at budget Platinum prices.

    • Airblade was my first game on the PS2. I thought it was so amazing and high-tech ^_^

    • I think they would have to do that… but the more they release (especially the more top quality games) people would walk into Game, look at the prices and get the impression that though the PS3 system is a more expensive console the games are more reasonably priced and higher rated on average than on the Wii or 360 as they’ll be presented by a wall of games with those stickers that say “90% stunning – gamesmaster” and see the £17 asking price

  6. Timesplitters 3, redone in HD with good online support.
I would never play an FPS other than KZ3 ever again.

  7. FFX and FFXII Collection :D

  8. The fact that those remasterings are not labeled as ‘HD Collection’ but as ‘Classics HD’ brings out two points:

    1. Sony is giving up on BC.
    2. Those remasterings are not about collections of games anymore, but potentially on individual games as well.

Which means we will probably see PS3 remasterings of games like Killzone 1 (which is sorely needed, btw).

    • Maybe a fully software option of BC just can’t work on the PS3.

  9. I would pay top dollar for Timesplitters and FF HD remakes. TOP TOP Dollar!!

    • So would I. Maybe we can start a petition so that Sony will notice we’ll be willing to spend a lot of money on those remakes. They’ll be heading our way then for sure

  10. Okami thats all i ask for
