Now that we’ve gotten over the shock of seeing Gabe Newell on a Sony stage without the big guy spontaneously combusting in a plume of paradoxical fury, it’s time to focus on the real meat of the story – Portal 2. Valve have released the first in what they’re promising to be seven early looks of gameplay from the spatially screwy sequel. Check it out below. [Insert Internet meme about cake here]

Is there anyone else who thinks the voice acting for the little english robot is really annoying?
Some of the lines are delivered nicely, but for some of them it just felt like he was reading off a script, inserting a bit of pantomime delivery here and there for “acting” effect.

Yeah I agree. It took away completely from the experience. When I heard the voice I just imagined a guy in a studio reading lines off of a script. Not great voice acting to be honest. They should have made it sound a bit more robotic as well like GlaDos’s voice

It sounds like a children’s TV presenter, trying to sound excited while singing a song about how to tie up your shoe laces.

Yeah, it’s like they just walked into a London pub and picked someone at random to do the voice! Didn’t fit at all IMO, and I could imagine it getting quite annoying after a while…

I thought there was something a bit ‘off’ with the voice acting but i also thought the new ‘character’ worked well as a contrast to Glados.

It’s a placeholder voice by one of the animators.

i really hope its just a placeholder voice, if it’s not i’m not buying the game. ok so i won’t go to that extreme but i will be slightly infuriated

Could you imagine if they got Stephen Fry to voice it?
:o

To be fair Stephen Fry should voice EVERYTHING. Most importantly he needs to do the main character of GTA V: Old Oxford Town.

Yeah Stephen Fry would work quite well I reckon, as would a turn from Kevin Spacey in the GERTY stylee. For some reason I quite like the idea of Rich Hall too (as a voice for the droid, not a concept).

not interested, that was boring, a waste of 3mins, some good gameplay would have been good. where does oprtal come into it??

oprtal? never heard of it. no wonder why it’s not been included in this gameplay video. :)

Keep an eye on portals website, they gave it away for free on PC recently and may well repeat the offer. I was chuffed to bits as my 6 month old had tried to eat my orange box disc :(
