Right let’s get down to some chart analysis.  First up, everyone’s favourite black box of tricks – the PS3.  In an amazing twist Red Dead Redemption has dropped twenty five places right out of the chart!  Just kidding, it’s still there perched proudly on its throne.  Do PS3 owners love cowboys that much, or has there just been a drought of top quality games?

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 is still doing well despite a small drop, but unfortunately Demon’s Souls has been kerb stomped right down to the bottom.  This was to be expected though, as this game definitely doesn’t have a long tail!  If you fancy a copy pick it up soon, as the UK release is a limited run.  Although you could save yourself some hassle and import it – hurrah for region free!

On a personal note – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in at number five?  Seriously?  Plus, whoever keeps buying Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands please see me for a light whipping and moderate berating.

Over on the Xbox 360 we have a new King of summer time!  Despite some conflicting reviews Crackdown 2 has shot to the top of the 360 charts.  Whilst the game is a blast, if you squint your eyes you can pretty much trick yourself into thinking you are playing the original Crackdown.  Still, a fun game is a fun game and Xbox owners seem to agree.  One could be mildly sceptical and claim that it’s only in at number one because there isn’t really much else new to challenge it but hey, let’s not go there.

Red Dead Redemption is sulking in the corner after being hog tied, whilst LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 is still doing well – expect it to shoot up the charts when the new film comes out.

Alan Wake has seen a bit of a resurgence, although I’ve seen it heavily discounted at certain retailers so this may be the cause.  A great game if you can find it with a few pounds knocked off the price.

On a personal note – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in at number six?  Seriously?  Plus, whoever keeps buying Prince of Persia: The…Wait, I’ve already said this haven’t I?

Join us next week to find out if Agents beat Cowboys, and if whipping discourages Princes.

  1. Seeing some of the games in the charts makes me want to put my head in my hands and cry for the sorry state of mandkind…

  2. Split/Second and Blur still having an almighty scrap!

    • I have both games – on the whole both are great – and it’s games like these that make it all worthwhile.

      • Not played Spilt/Second but Blur is brilliant fun online. I want to rent S/S as soon as poss

  3. The game in these charts I can’t work out is Split Second.
Given the price most places are selling it for (~£20) you would have thought it had sold terribly, and yet it has been in the top10 since launch… :S
One game that thoroughly deserves to be in the top10 is BC2. I finally picked up a copy this week and love the online :D infact it is the first ever online game I have really got into. Anyone who fancies a game swing me a FR. PSN: R4U-Eldave0 :)

    • Its been out for a coupl eof months. All games get knocked down to £20-£25 a few weeks after release, it’s a bit silly.

      • Yup.
I’m going to have to be an almighty huge fan of something to stump up release week prices, when I can wait a week or two and get nearly everything for almost half price.

      • Heh. I remember being all in a panic to buy LBP asap when I misunderstood the FIRST! trophy as only being given to the first 10 people to complete any community level.

    • I loved Split/Second, but it has limited appeal as it’s not that long.

I traded it in yesterday at Game and got £19, so I’d say it’s absolutely worth picking up for £25 and then playing solidly for a week for some good fun and trading it back in.

The release schedule is looking pretty crap for a while now – no games at all, not even bad ones. At least the £40 I have on my Game trade-in card and £15 on loyalty card will be able to go towards getting the Move when it’s released though. Means I have time to spend on Red Dead, GTA IV and the Episodes from Liberty City disc until Move comes out too.

  4. I’ve had Red Dead Redemption from lovefilm for about a week now. I seem to splend more time travelling than actually doing any missions. It’s better than GTAIV but my opinion of that wasn’t very high. Both games feel more of a slog. I’m looking forward to Lego Harry Potter arriving tomorrow though and getting back to Modnation Racers now I’ve bought it to replace my rental copy I had to send back.

  5. regarding Demon’s Souls “Although you could save yourself some hassle and import it – hurrah for region free!” technically yes you could but you would not be able to use the EU survers also on amazon the price has sky rocketed to £60 which could be why it’s not selling as many

P.s yes i am a DS fanboy so what

    • Has the price really gone that high?! Luckily I picked it up from a shop near me that sells imports for £35. Ebay was selling it at a decent price too although that may have changed.

    • Why are you bringing up the fact that your a DS fanboy?

      it seems random and irrelevent

      • DS = Demon’s Souls, not that thing from Nintendo that Ant and Dec seem to love so much. ;)

  6. Who is buying Naughty Bear? Its had terrible reviews, why are people buying it?!

    • Soon be going (very) cheap, so I’ll probably get it and find out. Yes, all the reviews say it’s a one-trick game, which is a shame, but well done to the developers for having a go and releasing such it hopefully they’ll learn from this and their next game will be a cracker!

      • Not necessarily, if their crap game is selling well where’s the incentive to make a better one next time?
They’ll just keep producing crap and letting marketing take care of the rest.

      • well no because the people who bought it will go “this is shit fuckoff buying the sequel”
