Commenting to CVG, Child of Eden designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi has stated that the technology behind Microsoft’s Kinect is improving, with Q Entertainment continuing to explore the inner-workings of the motion device. He said:
“Every day the technology and software improves, so we’re constantly tuning it. Nothing is optimal at the beginning of a new technology, but it’s been getting better and better the more we work with it.”
The producer also reflected on his desire to work with new technology, Kinect being an obvious choice for what many see as a spiritual successor to cult-hit Rez. He explains:
“I really love working with new technology and seeing what sort of experience we can create around it. The Natal (Kinect) technology happened to be the first one we got our hands on, so we wanted to see how it could work with Child of Eden.”
It should be noted that Child of Eden does not require Kinect, and traditional controllers can also be used with the new rhythm game. (Move support is apparently under consideration).
It’s good to hear that developers are continuing to work with Kinect and explore new ways of interacting with the technology, tweaking and finding out new things as they go. This also goes some way to reinforce the position that, just like all early technologies, games and experiences using Microsoft’s motion controller will continue to grow and improve throughout its lifecycle.

Great to see the developers getting to grips with the hardware and MS probably pushing out firmware updates so the code behind it all is as tight as a drum. However, what we saw at E3 really looked like a bag of also-rans other than the lovely Child of Eden and… and… ok, that was it. Kinect has a huge amount to prove to me right now and I’m still referring to the hardware, let alone the games.
Move has proved to me that the hardware is strong enough and I’m watching with anticipation to see what developers do with it.

These sorts of statements seem like big fluff pieces though. I mean with both the PS3 and the Xbox360 the technology and knowledge improves everyday which therefore results in better games.
It’s just sort of like a basic fact that with more time developers get to know systems better and make the system work better. Seems redundant.

As fluffy as they are they probably are issued to build confidence but for developers and for the consumer. MS will be very much aware of how the more serious gamer thinks that Kinect simply isn’t up to task. Next you’ll see MS staff bashing Sony’s Move contr… no wait…. ;-)

Fom what i saw at E3 , it looked like an interactive screensaver, which you had to wear gloves for? pretty bloody meh i thought at the time, and incredibly prentious…time will tell i suppose (but then again i wasnt a big fan of REZ either)

Game of the show, this E3 for me, with Deadspace II a close second. though if Last Guardian had shown, I’m sure that’d have topped the list.
