There’s a little bit of conflict this morning as to the validity of the source, but seemingly according to a (private?) Tweet from the official Sony PlayStation Twitter account, the PS3’s current web browser is going to get a “big upgrade” soon.
The news comes via NeoGAF, the forum carrying screengrabs from Twitterific running on an iPhone. I’ve not personally used that App, but according to posters at the source blue backgrounds signify private messages, suggesting it was send as a DM to the user, Simmo2K.
Indeed, there’s no such public Tweet from the official PlayStation account.
Regardless, if the screengrab is real (the appropriate section of the grab is duplicated below) then it looks like we might be seeing something powered by Google Chrome. Personally, I’d have prefered a Firefox based browser, but an upgrade is an upgrade.

It wouldn’t be too much of a leap to expect Move support, too.

if sony is upgrading the ps3 browser , then they should get the best internet browser out there an then test the browser an then releasing the update without getting any crash reports, lets say a sleeker design , smooth browser an adding a feature like firefox.

My inside sources indicate a Norwegian browser coming to PS3. This is good news, as there is only one Norwegian browser and it just so happens to be better and faster than Chrome and Firefox combined.

I used Opera for a while, it ‘seems’ quite a bit slower than Chrome these days and the Widget system is just pants compared to the bloatware Firefox’s add-ons and Chrome’s extensions.
Its also not great on the Wii and in the mobile arena on non-PC devices

Chrome is okay, but there is a huge lack of security for it.
Have you not heard about the hackers?
Personally I prefer Safari over any browser, but seeing as how that won’t work on a Ps3,
Firefox should be chosen.
Anything will be better than the crap browser it’s using now though,
but that is obvious.

Well, for my situation I have to have 2 PSN accounts. My primarily ID worked with the browser just fine until I acquired an HDTV and relocated from the front of the house to my room to the back of the house. Now for some inexplicable reason, only my secondary account can access the browser. My main one freezes up upon startup, yet I can play online…? I don’t get it…

It sounds like your browser is set to resume the page it was previously on. There are two settings, resume or load home page. Whatever the last page you had open was has something in the code (or plugin) that is freezing your browser when loading.
What about if you use the ‘What’s New’ feature on the XMB and trying going to a webpage that is linked there (they are ones with WWW in the bottom corner)? What about if you use the search feature from the XMB (which effectively just brings up google)?
