In a post on the official SOCOM blog, Zipper’s Senior Community Manager Jeremy Dunham has confirmed that the Move-enabled squad-based shooter has been delayed into next year, after previously being pegged for a late 2010 release.

“While we’re certainly aware that you’ve been looking forward to playing SOCOM 4 this year, we don’t want to take any shortcuts,” wrote Dunham in the post. “Instead, we want to deliver the best and most immersive SOCOM game we possibly can and we’re going to use our extra time to do just that.”

Joystiq contacted Sony for comment, and SCEA’s senior corporate communications director Patrick Seybold replied that “the team is focusing on additional features which will help to deliver the most compelling and immersion SOCOM experience yet. Please look out for further updates and announcements over the coming months.”

Whilst it’s never a happy experience to see a game delayed, if it means the end result is a more complete and polished product, then it is all for the better. Unfortunately for Sony though, it’s a big Move-supporting game pushed further away from release, which will likely make it tougher to win over that ‘core’ group to the controller come Christmas.

  1. thats a shame for the Move front, definitely. Oh well, lets hope it’s good when it comes out.

  2. Is there a reason to pick Move up before Christmas now, Sourcery(?) and now this out the other side, I can’t think of anything else which floated my Move boat. I would however play the tech demos all day long

    • there are still alot of games coming out for Move I thought, didn’t you guys make a long list recently. It’s just this was one of the “proper games” to use it instead of the usual casual sport games etc.

      • Yeah, at the time I just couldn’t recall anything else that wasn’t motion-shovelware.

    • I think I’ll be picking it up for all the games that are having it patched in, and things like LBP2. But yeah, with Killzone, SOCOM etc out next year now, it’s a little thin.

  3. Wasn’t this ‘Moves’ hardcore game? Such ashame…
