Heavy Rain Shifts 1.5m Units

David Cage is a happy man as Heavy Rain has smashed predicted sales figures and has reached 1.5 million units shifted. He also hopes the game will pass the 2 million sales barrier by the end of the year.

Cage also revealed the average review score taken from a survey of 500 reviews was over 90% (I wonder if that included our review that gave the game 7/10) .

What is surprising for a game launched back in February is that the title is still selling at near the RRP and has not been discounted.

Play.com and HMV are still selling the title for £37.99, Amazon will flog you the game for £32.99 with only ShopTo.net discounting the title to £26.99, but that is part of their weekly specials rather than a permanent price reduction.

  1. I’m waiting for that discount. Wanna play it, but I’m not going to pay near the RRP.

  2. With the move patch and re-release, I’m sure it will pass the 2m mark.
Congrats to Quantic Dreams on turning a fairly niche idea into quite a hit. Even if the final product is still rather flawed.

Will be interesting to see what they can manage next time around, with an extra few years of tech development to push further through the Uncanny Valley.

    • I will be playing through Heavy Rain again when I get Move… probably the only reason to play it again now.

  3. 1.5m Units is well deserved in my opinion.
    I really enjoyed Heavy Rain
Sadly once i completed my first play though i didn’t really feel the urge to play through again. I do however have that as one of the things to do on my leisurely to-do-list as i’d like to experiment with different scenarios in different ways to how i originally did.

  4. cracking game…

    absolutely cracking….

untradable for me as is Fahrenheit….

  5. I really enjoyed it, definitely going to have another playthrough with the move controller after the games patched.

  6. Well done to them, loved the game. I would think it might even beat that 2m with the Move re-release, if the game is being featured in the ‘Move sections’ at retail.

  7. It’s an incredible game, I think that after the move release it will sell very good. And David Cage is gonna be a even happier man

  8. Great news for a new IP.

Probably one of the most enjoyable games Ive played in a while, with a gripping story that had me hooked from start to finish.

    Congratulations Quantic Dreams

  9. TSA isn’t a major site so it’s 7/10 was probably ignored. Should be higher than that anyway.

    • Errr…watch you mouth boy :-p

    • :O

how dare you, sir. how dare you.

    • One of Europes biggest gaming websites isnt major?

      Blasphemy :)!

  10. Well, I was going to buy a copy of the game myself, until the ******* ***** at Official PlayStation Magazine UK ruined the big plot twist! Isn’t there an unwritten law that says at least a year has to pass after a game’s release before you can start firing off spoilers?

    • I think it’s about six months nowadays, sadly. But yeah, I think OPSM gave it away the following month – totally unnecessary.

      • Glad I don’t bother reading it any more!!

      • I’m deliberately not reading anything about Heavy Rain (except for articles such as this!) as i am still playing through this with the missus! We don’t sit down together to play a game too often, but we are both loving the story driven gameplay of HR. Absolutely brilliant from what i have seen so far!

      • this game is way too awesome and only for ps3 hahah xbots hehe

    • Some noob on YouTube ruined it for me but I still got it as I went ahead and checked videos of it on machinima and it looked soo good but I’m an MW2 addict for now so I’ll play it when Move comes out.
