62We were expecting some form of new PlayTV information from Sony’s Gamescom event, and we got it in the form of “PlayTV Live Chat”.
Apparently Live Chat will add community features to the app, including (unsurprisingly) live chat, as well as programme recommendations and the ability to share what you’re watching on Facebook.
Sounds like a software update for the existing hardware, but we’re waiting for more details from Sony.

by chat, do they mean internet/facebook or a completely different chat that works offline through the tv service?
wouldnt it be easier to bring a seperate app for facebook chat?

It will be over the internet via the PSN. Either private or public chat for upto 64 people.
You can recommend programmes directly to other PSN users who from the recommendation can directly launch PlayTV to the programme, although with the amount of time it takes PlayTV to start it would have most likely finished :/
You can also recommend via Facebook.

1 thing that has not been mentioned is that the chat feature is a “Premium” content feature and anybody who wants it will have to pay for it.
Though why anybody would want to pay for this is beyond me.
If you want to discuss what you are watching with like minded people use MSN or something similar to chat with friends, or any of the millions of TV forums to chat with strangers.

I like the idea, it’s like watching something with a mate or our lass and discussing it etc. I still don’t live with the missus yet (as I’m not a fucking idiot ;-) ) so it’s better than having to text each other while watching….. If you don’t want this then why do you want cross game chat?

Its not voice chat, its text chat, the same as texting each other.

Hopefully the series link will be patched in rather than included in the “paid for” Live Chat Edition…
