UK To Get A Dedicated Video Game Channel

One of the most baffling things I find as a gamer is the lack of quality TV shows about games.  Playr seems to have died a tragic death, The Ginx Files is fairly good, as is GameFace – but that’s where the trail ends.  Well good news today as the UK is to get its first 24/7 videogaming TV channel – which will start at the end of November.

Our saviours are Ginx TV – the lot behind Gameface, and the channel will be shown on Virgin and Sky channels.

CEO Michiel Bakker had the following to say;

“The Ginx channel is going to be an evolution rather than an overnight revolution. Is it a good TV show to watch people play games? Does that make for good TV? If it does we’ll do it. If it doesn’t we won’t.

You have to understand that in a 24 hour channel there will be elements of repeat. We’re not doing 24 hours fresh content one hour after the other. That would be too ambitious. So there’s a healthy level of repeat in it.”

Ginx TV is hoping to launch with four shows, and may be in HD.  Hopefully it will be able to tread the fine line between being informative whilst not coming across as patronising.

    Now that’s a strapline!

  2. Wonder if they can license Gametrailers TV?

    • They have to it’ll be great to watch

  3. Not for me. :(

  4. is it subsciption based?
knowing gamers, they will get their recording devices out and upload to youtube HD within a few hours.

    • The same is true of every other channel that exists, talk about the glass being half empty!

  5. good to watch every now and then.

  6. sounds good, as long as its presented well and has good interviews/reviews

  7. I wished that it was on freeview….:(

    • Yeah, i have sky downstairs but not upstairs and i very rarely get the telly to myself. If it was on freeview as well i would probably watch it more.

    • Yeah ditto, i cant be arsed with SKY or virgin, my playTV is all i need…was kinda hoping with the headline it would be terrestrial, balls! :(

    • Same here, I’ll never subscribe to Sky, mainly because it puts money in Murdochs pocket, but also because it has adverts.

  8. I miss Playr :(

If its free to watch, and not a subscription channel then I might take a look now and then.

  9. Dont get either Sky or Virgin so a no go for me. Cant get a gaming channel through PlayTV – now thats just silly

    • I can’t get PlayTV where I live.

  10. Seems a little ambitious! I mean BBC News 24 spend a lot of their time trying to think of ingenious ways to re-report the same news and that is everything happening anywhere ever!
Still, if they come up with some good shows, comedy content, news and chat then it could be a great thing. It does odd that we had 3 or 4 shows when I was young and yet now, with dozens of digital channels available there are none.
