New Final Fantasy XIV Trailer Out

Final Fantasy XIV just keeps looking better and better– and with the PC release date fast approaching, Square Enix has released the TGS 2010 trailer for the game.

The trailer shows a quick tour of the game world – Eorzea – before turning slightly more action orientated.  I think we can all agree that the world is looking lush and vibrant, and it makes me wish I had a gaming PC that could run it.  Roll on March for PS3 owners!

  1. I was so excited about this game but now as SE do these days f*** everything up this game will not be for hardcore mmo fans you’ll only be able to gain xp for 8 hours per week which is the most lame thing i ever heard. u pay a monthly fee and then you can only level up 8 hours per week. im so disappointed this game will die fast. read more on ffxivcore.com

    • I actually don’t care about this implementation because I don’t have the freetime to become a “hardcore MMO” fan. I used to have plenty of time on my hands back in the FFXI days but now I appreciate the fact that I can achieve stuff without having to invest huge amounts of time. However I do think they could have come up with a better plan to address this issue. I’d much rather have a WOW like “rested” system with XP bonuses on top of the regular XP instead of penalising the people who spend more time in Eorzea. But your information is not 100% correct. You will be able to gain XP after the initial 8 hours. The amount you receive decreases gradually over the 7 (or 8?) hours following the initial 8 hours of regular XP.

      • Yes – after 15 hours you will earn zero XP. I might be in the minority, but 15 hours a week sounds like a fair chunk of time?

      • Exactly. They even mentioned, that the time to earn XP can be won back by doing non-XP yielding activities. People should just wait and see how this turns out. SE will surely make adjustments to this system over the course of FFXIVs lifecycle. I’m sure this game will not die fast, as the original poster of the comment has predicted. *rollshiseyes*

      • Im with you Kerash all the way. Far to many games out there to get stuck into than spending my life on one game

      • that system would be fine in a free to play mmo but for a subscription based service, punishing your most hardcore supporters is not a good idea, hell, in most businesses, pissing off your biggest customers is always a bad idea.

unless of course you have a monopoly position in the market, and they don’t, wow is closest to that position but even wow isn’t invincible.

i swear, the more i read about this game the less i’m interested in it.

still, there’s plenty of time to see how misguided this fatigue scheme is and get rid of it, replace it with a wow style rest mechanic if you have to, by the time they release the ps3 version.

i really don’t know why they’re trying to make it so hardcore players and casual players can level together, just about every mmo there is shows that the hardcore and casuals never play together.

they’re different kinds of players, let them play separately, some play to collect uber gear and elite drops others are just having fun, why force them together when neither group will likely enjoy the experience.

besides, by definition the casuals are going to be a lot less bothered by not being able to level than the hardcore players, so why they, or anybody for that matter, think this is a good idea is quite beyond me.

    • id prefer to read more on thesixthaxis.com personally…

  2. That music was too cheesy, even for me. I’m still too jaded after XI.

  3. Getting tired of trailers just being non-gameplay movies. Remember how awesome Vanguard looked, but then was just Brad McQuaid taking a dump on his desk. I was in the alpha and beta for XIV, but decided to drop out because it seems to be going in the wrong direction in terms of gameplay and design. I enjoyed XI for over a year, they haven’t learned from past mistakes it seems.

  4. The FF world is looking good but I’ve never been a fan of this genre so I won’t be buying.

    • This isn’t the typical JRPG you are used to from the single player FF games. This is completely different.

  5. I love a good frolicking.

  6. Its in french ahhhhhhhhhhhh :P

  7. OOoh coming to the Playstation in Mars.. best get ready to move… Oh forgot, that was french..lol

    • Pretty cool trailer!
I guess about the XP thing, the first information they released about it was that you level classes is that crafting/discipline will be tied in. Maybe ‘earning’ more XPing time through your craft is a way that they are trying to promote this idea?
Hopefully the battle system is more fun that 11s, though it looks to be identical.
It looks like they’ve thought a lot about the issues of 11 and come up with new and original ways to progress. Hardly anybody seems to do that, so FFXIV (took me way too long to figure out those numerals just then) is something that I’m looking forward to :)!
