It’s not just 3D Blu-ray playback being added next week in the new 3.50 firmware, it looks like the PS3 system software update will also add a few other tweaks to the system. Connected Consoles noticed the official Japanese information page for the update claims that two new features will also be added:
迷惑メッセージを受信した場合、通報できるようになりました。
If you get an unwanted PSN message (and we’ve all had a few) then you can now report them directly from the XMB, hopefully putting an end to some of the ridiculous spam and phishing attempts we’ve seen.
Facebook®対応ゲームからFacebook®に公開している情報にアクセスできるようになりました。
And that looks like additional Facebook support – in particular it appears you’ll be able to post from the game, assuming you’ve given permission from that particular game to transmit your details. This sort of thing (along with Twitter) is very popular on the iPhone platform.
So, yep – two new features, but remember the big thing is the playback of 3D Blu-rays. Firmware 3.50 is out next week.
Thanks, w3r3w0lf.

Looking forward to the blog when update is posted, complaining about how this is a “lame update” and “where’s cross-game-chat?!” :)
I for one won’t use the Facebook side of things, and cannot afford a 3d-tv just yet, however the spam reporting is a decent inclusion.
And it’s all free :)

well u should try facebook, itz quite good, i use it daily, only if we also got Twitter, MySpace, Bebo, Flickr, Orkut & Buzz integration as well.
But as well as Facebook Integration, we need a Facebook Application!
Where the PS3 can fully support every feature of Facebook!
We need the same for Twitter, MySpace, Bebo, Flickr, Orkut & Buzz!

“Your review of [insert game title] is obviously bullshit. The game isn’t even out yet! Epic Fail. Loser.”
Yes, I actually got that one.

Most of the spam i can ignore but I once recieived 21 identical hate messages from a complete stranger and i had to do a bit of searching online to find out how to report it so reporting direct from the XMB is a very welcome addition.

Thank goodness this update is coming out just before FIFA11. I lost count of the number of abusive messages I received when playing FIFA10 online. Perhaps I’m just too good? ;-)

Those spam messages are highly irritating, I receive many and never post them on. It’s good to see Sony have picked up on that.
As for more FB interaction … well, I couldn’t really care less but I’m sure it’ll please many people so It’s obviously a good thing.

But what happens? 99% of the time these come from people in my friends list and I wouldn’t want to get them in trouble…

Bodie and Doyle are dispatched to location and the messages stop for good… yeah, they do some work for Sony on the side these days.
