Josh already touched on this earlier this morning, but it’s worth further discussion: Sony last night announced yet another firmware update as part of their TGS press conference, this time taking the PS3’s system software to 3.50.
The update, which will land on the 21st of this month, will do little more than allow the PS3 to playback 3D Blu-ray discs for those of us lucky enough to have a suitable television set. Sony had previously said the update will come in October, so this is a welcome shift.
I’m personally still hopefully that Sony will patch in some better XMB functionality for the Move, given that some operations, such as scrubbing through a film, don’t really work with the motion controller.
If we hear anything else on 3.50 today, we’ll let you know.
Bilbo_bobbins
good news for all I think. Can’t go wrong with free updates, unless they crash your ps3 as so many claim, which they don’t ;-)
exellentgamer
what about 3.21
Nauraph
I expect there will be a couple of surprises in 3.50.. I hope.
JoshHood
Sony say we’ll have more details Monday, so we’ll find out then!
hobgoblin
True, but will they detail everything? I.e. after a few hours/ days are users going to find features that Sony neglected to tell us about.
Charmed_Fanatic
fingers crossed!
Michael33
Other feature of 3.50
“If you receive unwanted messages, you can now report.
[Friends] △ button Select the message received, the report] is selected, you can report junk messages.”
MegaBonez
Well I don’t have a 3D TV, so this update is useless to me. I tell you what I want, more avatars, and not ones you have to pay for!!
3shirts
Yes, they should make a firmware update for each individual’s particular requirements shouldn’t they. How dare they adapt the console for the latest emerging technology and give us, yet again, a cutting edge feature for no additional cost.
bajere
hahaha
poulter653
ITV Player on the XMB hopefully!
Danza Di Fuoco E Ghiaccio
oh god no….
jimmy-google
It is coming at some point, I just hope there’s an option to hide it. I’d rather have Channel 5 than ITV.
STILLCANTTHINKOFAGOODPSNNAME
what ain’t Harry Hill on anymore
gordon_strange
harry hill was bitten by a black widow spider, in an egyptian hotel a couple of weeks ago. he is paralysed on one side. his itv show is on hiatus for the fore seeable (is that right? ) future.
AG2297
Funny thing is if you type “harry hill bitten” in google this comment is the first result :)
gordon_strange
haha quality-i’ve finally made it!
bajere
Id rather have the Sky Player on the XMB. Would be dead handy having my SkyHD box features placed inside my PS3… One less box under the TV!
Rocket_345
I agree i would also mean i can watch my tv shows without hassle
scavenga
When peoples kids start to go blind, and their IQ drops [another] 50 points, I’m gonna be there to say “I told you so”.
I can’t believe people get in on the 3d thing at this early stage.
Bilbo_bobbins
agree here. Not sure why peoples IQ would drop. I can see it creating eye problems in the long run though.
bunimomike
As it happens, aren’t children supposed to avoid watching stuff in 3D. There was an article on TSA about it fairly recently.
cc_star
The advice is children under 7 shouldn’t look at any 3D imagery whatsoever. I don’t know what miraculous event happens on the day they turn 7 that it no longer negatively effects people, so I’d have thought discretion should be used
3shirts
Daily Mail reader?
scavenga
LOL, no. I just see how kids are becoming dumber and slower because they have no other input than TV and video. I know of 3-4 year olds who can hardly talk, because they have a continous stream of video in front of them. Combining this witn the still young tech of 3Ds amount of strain on the eyes (and brain) is surely not gonna help matters, is it?
STILLCANTTHINKOFAGOODPSNNAME
now they just have to get us deaf and they will have the whole package
Jas-n
Strain on eyes? what? I get it on Polarised, but not the active shutters I have.
kevatron400
I thought all kids see in 3D anyway. Can’t remember the 2D stages to my pre 7yo life.
djhsecondnature
@scavenga – Do you have any proof that a) kids are getting dumber? b) that is a) is true that it’s the fault of TV and video?
Bodachi
Hopefully we will get the ITV player.
andytorr
*cmd+v* Voice Chat? :'(

Anybody wanting ITV Player is bonkers crazy, have they ever watched the channel? The one & only good thing they have on is the Champions League which won’t get added to ITV Player anyway due to Internet broadcasting rights. ITV is the cesspit of British TV who’s sole purpose in life is to vacuum up all the shit from the TV schedules into one easily avoidable channel.
Now bring on 4oD, LoveFilm and SeeSaw
djdustb
I’m with you on that one. ITV really is terrible
3shirts
Some of their dramas are ok
chris_huh
Exactly, 4od i would use. ITV is rubbish, i saw an advert the other day for something called 71 degrees north about people hiking to the Arctic circle. It confused me, it being on ITV, then i heard the word ‘celebrity’. Oh itv, can’t you do anything without washed up celebrities attempting to claw back a career.
Voganlight
Hehe, that show is from Holland, I’d recommend not watching it
kevatron400
71 Degrees north is awesome. They should call it “Celebrity Get Cold and Complain” though.
gordon_strange
not a corrie fan then?
i’ve always imagined you as a norris type of guy. i see myself as a kevin webster type- before he shaved off his tash of course!
djhsecondnature
Isn’t X-Factor on there? I know my gf will want it for that.
Harinero
Having a 3DTV now is not a matter of luck. It’s a matter of money, impatience and a will to wear one too many pairs of glasses. ;)
T-82
For the love of God! let there be a new music visualisation!!
JoshHood
There’s a new one on the way, don’t worry ;)
hobgoblin
Someone knows more than they’re telling ;)
T-82
If you’re talking about Q-Games’ PixelJunk Lifelike (which I fear will require Move).
