EA’s FIFA 11 (review coming soon) has become the UK’s third biggest first week selling game ever, coming behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV.
The footy sim managed to shift 0.82 million copies, just shy of GTA IV’s 0.93 but some way off the evergreen Modern Warfare 2, which sold 1.78 in its first week. Of course, it’ll be interesting to see where the sales lay after a month or two.
According to the Guardian, the Xbox 360 version of the game sold the most (with 50% of total sales) with the PS3 close by with 47%. 1% each went to the Wii version and PSP version.
Konami’s PES 2011 launches this Friday.

Massive numbers… congrats EA
Wonder how many of those 820,000 copies were sold in supermarket for a shade over £25, subsidised by add-on purchases?
Odd that the Wii only got 1% of sales as it has FIFA Street built in

but i feel dat da tru experience iz only on ps3 & xbox 360 (even though im a ps3 fanboy, i’ve got 2 admit, 360′s version is just as good as ps3′s version, after all, they are just da same game).
and i dnt feel dat im alone, since as you sed, only 1% of the sales were on da wii =)
EA must be very happy to own da FIFA license X)
easy profit annually, it’ll take a nifty amount of failed risks to lose it all wont it?
e.g. their lbp killer, quite a risk, but could also succeed tremendously.

Mr Rules
I’m an old fuddy duddy, I didn’t understand half of that, so for the second and final time can I please make a polite request that you write properly.
This isn’t MSN where writing quicker is necessary, and it’s not Twitter where only a limited number of characters are available.
I cannot think of a single reason why you write in such a way that makes it impossible to engage in conversation.
From your final sentence I gather you’re talking about EA’s ‘Create’ – yes, it is a bit of a risk, and profits from a franchise such as FIFA will help cover that risk should it turn out not to be profitable

Oh, it’s good to see how close the PS3 sales are to the 360′s.
Fifa 11 seems good, which is a real compliment coming from me, since I hate football.

Especially when you consider there are apparently 40% more (2.1 million) Xbox 360s in the UK than that PS3s.
Makes you wonder how many still work :/ ?

i find this quite strange,i always thought that the wii outsold the xbox and the ps3 in console sales in the UK,therefore i thought that the most copies would be sold on the wii, however i can see why people would be more interested in the ps3 and xbox versions compared to the wii version.
it is quite something that it is so cheap,i wonder why they are making it as such?

That’s not even close to the truth. The Wii has quite a few great games.

lol theres truth in that ! I wish Mario played for Liverpool because we need all the help we can get right now , on second thoughts he might already be there because i’d swear half the team where on Magic Mushrooms yesterday !

How does this work for the first week sales, it only came out on Friday did it not? Do sales in the next few days not count? Staggering numbers none the less

Wow…and honestly I just got FIFA 10 a month or 2 ago. I might just skip this one and go for FIFA 12. I doubt I’ll be missing much.

I skipped 10 because it was too alike 09 but after playing the 2 demos i think its still like 09 which in no way is a bad thing because 09 was bloody excellent but im tempted to get PES 11 instead as the reviews have been outstanding (from non Fifa zealots) and the demo felt like a return to past PS2 glories.
In these tough times i cant justify £30 on basically a glorified kit and transfers patch . I have still yet to get Battlefield Vietnam , a Move controller , Sports Champions , Formula One , Red Dead Redemption , Tumble , GT5 , Demons Souls, MoH etc and they are all way above another Fifa .
Truth be told I only play Fifa when i have mates around so I couldnt care if Robbie Keane is still up front for Liverpool or whatever !

EA must be over the moon with those numbers.
Very impressive stuff for a yearly sports update and even though the series always sold extremely well, the game has improved immensely to match up to the fantastic sales it generates.

Didn’t GTA IV get a Tuesday release compared to Fifa 10s Friday one?
Fifa 10 is also the 2nd largest day 1 sales in the UK behind MW2. It made more last week than the total value in the UK for any single weeks games sales in 2010, which is staggering.

I’ve just put a post in the community suggestions thread of the forum regarding setting up a fifa11 league. Everyone let me know your thoughts on it. I’m quite excited by the prospect :-)
