You might think you’ve heard everything about the Gran Turismo 5 delay tonight, but you’d be wrong. According to the New York Times, who are citing a telephone interview with Taku Imasaki, the game’s North American producer, the decision to delay the game was made just yesterday.
“We’re really close, but this was an executive decision that was made yesterday,” Imasaki said. “Realistically,” he continued, “we thought we had a good date. We’re not happy over here.”
The Times says that Imasaki is “is shooting for it to be out by the holidays” and that we “won’t see too much more delay.” These comments don’t sound particularly concrete to me, the producer not committing to a specific date suggests there’s a little more work to be done to the game before it’s ready.
Discussion is floating around this evening that Sony might be wanting to ensure firmware 3.50 is required for the game, locking out potential piracy. There’s no evidence to support this, but the New York Times suggests another theory: that the company might not have “sufficient supplies of the game to meet demand”.
You can read my personal blog on the situation here.

Surprised?…I’m not…I’m just fed up.

Not have sufficient supplies my arse… never heard of that delaying anything before.
Also is “is…” :)

“that the company might not have sufficient supplies of the game to meet demand”
Quite true, at this rate it won’t go gold until 2012, which would make it quite difficult to make enough units for this Christmas :P
mcduff1979
well im probably the only one on this site that cares very little about this game, so another delay isnt going to bother me in the slightest… roll on MOH, LBP2, DCUO and FF14
Harinero
You’re not. Or maybe you are because you care very little and I care pretty much nothing about it. Not that I’m bagging on the game of anything, it’s just that realistic[ish] driving simulations do nothing for me (and also, I can’t drive worth sh!t).
The drama, on the other hand, is turning out to be quite entertaining…

I’m starting to care less. You’re right though, more time to play other good games coming up. MoH for me, then next month Black Ops…yes I said it! I’ll give Black Ops a try…if it sucks, then it’s back to MoH and BFBC2.
I’ll still buy GT5 though, but I have to get a wheel.

“won’t see too much more delay.”
That doesn’t mean there will be no more delay’s…
DrNate86
I initially read your post as:
“won’t see too much more delay.”
That means there won’t be too much more delay.

In my opinion, if it were something to do with being able to produce the amount of copies to supply demand, they should aim at producing a sufficient amount to fulfil the pre-orders, and not have it on store shelves. They could also release the game later on it other, less demanding areas, and use the blu-rays that would have been created for those areas to stock up in areas of higher demand.
I realise that there a whole host of errors with my suggestions, so don’t even bother trying to tell me. In the end they’ve made the decision that they feel best, they are a huge company, and I’m certain they know what they’re doing. Having said that, their marketing department seems to be a little, lacking shall we say. Either way, I would like to know a new release date, sooner rather than later. I didn’t buy a playstation to wait around for delays and other such things.
Cort
Finish it. THEN announce a launch date, you F***ING MOOOROOOOONS.
Jas-n
So that would be something like “We’ve finished GTA5, it’s out next week”
Wouldn’t get much publicity.
ruinereraser
GTAV is out next week? Sweet! ;)
nemesisND1derboy
Wow. There has to be something gamebreakingly wrong with it for them to delay it like that. Things aren’t looking good…
DJ-Katy
Well, that settles it.
