Pirates defeated by Vuvuzelas, Skynet goes live and now ‘Man uses Kinect to create Predator cloak’. It must be Friday.

The latest use for a hacked Kinect is shown in the video below created by Japanese coder Takayuki Fukatsu. He has used the data from Kinect to map an image of the background over his own body, resulting in the Predator cloaking effect. This has been scientifically proven to be 34% more fun than standing in an inflatable dinghy and jumping up and down.

      • Shush, you’ll ruin the illusion that Kinect is ‘revolutionising gaming’ and doing things that have ‘never been possible before’. ;)

        It is kinda cool that is has been hacked though, having the hardware in accessible in a neat package for a reasonable price is fairly convenient. If some of these hacks turn into something useful for PC I might pick one up second hand when people start to get bored of them in a few months.

  5. If it was improved to take into account the distance between the user and the background and adjust accordingly it would be even cooler – but what would you actually use it for?…sneaking up on your kinect? :)
    It’s not exactly wearable camo tech although i guess it could be incorporated into a cctv system, but then who’s going to install a cctv system that hides people? :p
    Oh well, it’s still a pretty cool effect.

    • TSA tower could use this system you speak of. How much do you want for it?:P

    • It was used in one of the PS2 eyetoy games for some effect, your right though it’s not all that useful.

  9. That’s actually the only thing about Kinect I actually thought was cool. Stealth camo, but real… well, ish!

    • agreed, its got loads of uses but devs are playing it safe with shovelware
