Not that we needed THQ to confirm the inevitable, but it was nice of them to do so anyway on an earnings call back in February of this year, letting us know that Saints Row would be treated to another pimped out outing in 2011. Since then, however, we’ve heard (and seen) very little of the title.
In fact, if things had turned out a little different, we could have got our first glimpse of Saints Row 3 during this year’s E3 if it wasn’t for a last minute decision by Volition to pull the title from the expo, quoting a requirement for the developer to “rebuild tech” before its big reveal. Never fear, as Vice President of THQ Danny Bilson has since confirmed that the game’s all set for an unveiling at the VGAs on the 11th of this month.
Saints Row has always been a big, brash, often insane variation of a certain other crime-glorifying open-world title. THQ’s series has its own dedicated following, however, with certain sectors of the gaming consensus preferring Saints Row 2 over Rockstar’s bigger-budgeted media-hogging juggernaut.
Considering the media black-out about the title, we obviously know very little of such things as plot etc. It has been rumoured that the third chapter will head in a new direction, the Corporate Warfare DLC pack for Saint’s Row 2 suggesting a move away from the location of the first two games, Stilwater, as The Boss hunts for Dexter Jackson, former lieutenant of the Saints gang who has since fled the city. We guess we’ll find out a lot more at the VGAs on the 11th.
Sporting low 80 scores on Metacritic, Saints Row 2 is worthy of its legion of over-the-top action and high-jinks fans. Saints Row 3 is primed as a guilty pleasure of 2011, a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously but will undoubtedly deliver a crime-laced yarn full of colourful characters and crazy plot-turns.
Saints Row 3 will be out on PS3, PC and Xbox 360 in Q3/Q4 2011.

Cant wait, the customization was great in the last one :)

Never got around to ever play SR2, though I have heard it’s pretty fun. I did try the first one though, and thought it was a quirky break from GTA.

I’ve actually never played them before. Think I like GTA too much, but if this looks good, think Ill no longer resist and pick it up. Do enjoy a sandbox!

Second one wasn’t bad, quite fun, if a little repetitive. The third needs a HUGE improvement in graphics though, made my eyes water at times.

I haven’t played this franchise. I dd have sr2 for a couple of months, but never played because it didn’t have trophy support (I know I know).
If it’s as fun as I’m led to Belive then the third could be a goer-with trophies!

Did* and believe*. Damn iPhone. Damn no editing options.

SR2 was absolutely awesome. I’ve spent 100+ hours in it – and that was PS3 version with no trophy support, it’s just the game that good that you want to replay it with new characters. And co-op? Absolutely awesome.
SR3 will need one thing though, and it will need it badly: ability to filter online games/co-op by enabled/disabled cheats. Abundance of not filterable cheaters on PSN and even on XBLA (360 version has achievements and cheats disable them).

Saints Row is like GTA before it got a bit too serious. I loved SR2 so I hope for more of the same in 3

I couldn’t really get on with SR2, not sure why though! I’ll keep my eye on this though. You never know!

Sounds interesting, I wasn’t a fan of the previous games, especially the visuals but if they’re rebuilding some of the tech it might be worth a look.
