Pop quiz: Name three things associated with UK television station Channel 5? Correct! CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami and CSI: New York. Joining this forensic threesome will be PlayStation’s very own Sackboy, although sadly he will not be the lead role in CSI: LittleBigPlanet. Instead, he will be re-enacting famous movie scenes as Sony has signed a deal to sponsor every family and prime time film on Five, Fiver and Five USA until 31st December 2011.
Sackboy (and Sir Stephen of Fry) are heading up the first batch of movie sponsor idents but Sony will be changing these periodically so we expect other PlayStation favourites such as Nathan Drake, Ratchet and the Helghast to make an appearance.

Ha! Absolutely brilliant! Finally a decent ad campaign from Sony, shame it’s on FIVE. I think I only ever watch FIVE movies when they star Steven Seagal (so all the time then). I particularly enjoyed the Karate Kid one, the Scarface one and Top Gun one.
Great stuff.

With you on this one, Jonny. It highlights something very obvious to me. A massive, MASSIVE company like Sony can’t be bothered to stump up the green-backs to get this on ITV (far higher viewing figures) and slip it onto some backwater channel (in comparison).
It’s a start, Sony, but let’s ramp it up some more!

Brillint Idea!! Finally SCEE have come up with a decent advertising campaign.
Shame not many will be seeing them! Who watches Five for movies?? Fifth Gear, gadget show CSI and the occasional odd documentary for five minutes. But movies, not really!

Great advert, they could do a new one every time there’s a big movie being released..

Decent!
But why couldnt they have plucked for ITV instead? Sure would’ve been more expensive but it would’ve reached a larger audience. For the life of me I dont know anyone who watches Five for other than australian soaps.

ITV is horrible channel, I can’t remember the last time there was something worth watching on it…

Maybe you dont, but its often the most watched channel (terrestrially that is) each night into the ratings. If it loses, its only to the BBC and well, you cant advertise there.
And ratings for films it broadcasts are often into the multi-million figures. I believe the last Harry Potter they showed was viewed by 5 or so million. Which I am pretty confident in saying is probably more than Channel 5 get for their highest rated show.

Sorry I think this article is wrong. Your suggesting that Sony are actually promoting ssomething via mainstream (everyone gets ch5 now right?) television? Nah must be April fools….
On a sensible note: this is great news!

It’s a bit odd they chose the one TV station that has not got a PS3 catch up service.

A bit of a shame Five doesn’t have an HD version as these ads could have been jaw-dropping visually.
