Some good game-to-movie news for a change as the creator of ‘NYPD Blue’ and ‘Deadwood’, David Milch, has signed on to adapt TSA’s top game of 2010, Heavy Rain, into a movie. Milch will start work on the freshly truncated ‘Rain’ as soon as he has finished work on another project, HBO horse racing series ‘Luck’.
Milch’s background in crime drama bodes well for the project, the core premise of a serial killer and a detective should stay intact but it will be interesting to see if Milch keeps in the science fiction elements of the story such as Jayden’s fabulous virtual reality desk.

I’m all for the idea, but how the hell are they going to pull this one off?
DrNate86
Quite easily I imagine, the whole nature of the game lends itself very well towards being filmed. I imagine they will rewrite bits to tighten it up, but on the whole the story, scenes and characters are all there for adaptation.
NotoriousGTT
Ooooh, this sounds interesting, will be good to watch this one develop.
Crisz
Well thats cool! :D I hope they make a good movie. Wondering which of the stories and endings they pick =P

Surely the whole point of Heavy Rain was the fact that it was the player who determined the course of the game. I’m sure the movie will be good, but not as good as the game.
BG123
How many movie tie-ins have been as good as the game though?
Samiro05
I think it’s always best to watch the film before reading the book or in this case watch the film before playing the game. I say this because the films are never usually as good as the others but I LOVE the Harry Potter films just cus I have never read the books, and I thought Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was a good film and then I played PoP:TSoT on the collection and thought the film was great. Complain all you want about films, I tend to like even the most rubbish of films of things I like – Dragonball. :p
ARUMIR Sympozium
Live apdaptions of anime and video games is just wrong. I used to watch stuff like Dragonball and Gundam Wing back in the years and well seeing them destroyed in such live-acts would be much worster than eye-strain…..
I’m currently dreading the Uncharted movie……
jikomanzoku
I agree Arumir,
videogames are not a medium that is suited to being turned into a film and the uncharted and Heavy Rain movies are likely to be amongst the most fist-gnawingly awful films of the year (whichever year it’s released in). Much like Prince of persia, Mortal Kombat, Tekken and everything else that’s gone before it then. Lowest common denominator pap – and not even good at ticking that box.
Kronik76
The point of Heavy Rain is that is IS a movie, an interactive one with multiple possiblities and outcomes. Now they are going to turn it into a non interactive movie with only one outcome. Kinda misses the point, does it not?
DrNate86
The story and scenes are the same though pretty much however you play it, the only thing that really changes is the ending, and I imagine they will go for the happy one where you learn everything!

A Heavy Rain film could work out very well, I see there is a lot of people who have forgotten what the game was, just because you can’t choose a path for the character to walk down shouldn’t spoil the film (and let’s face it, no matter what you did in Heavy Rain, it would always end with the same main story element, whether they lived or died.)
failing that, they could always release an interactive DVD special edition with cut scenes and alternate endings.

Fincher or Nolan for Director?
rht992
hmmmm that would be good. but people will probable just say its another 7 or the new saw
PoorPaddy89
Fincher plz. Seven was incredible and I think he’d do well with the source material.
rht992
oh 7 was amazing. i love that film but i can see people who didn’t know about this game to simply pass it off as a cheep copy
Samiro05
Ooh, can I be Ethan/Jayden XD! I would like to see a film of this but I read about an idea for a film the other day but I cannot remember the name of the game it was based on at all and it’s quite frustrating atm·
jonny_bolton
So long as they get rid of the plot hole that is
*potential spolier alert*
*potential spolier alert*
… Ethan waking up with Origami figures in his hand. I mean WTF? I know from the cut-scenes video that it was all part of a wider supernatural theory but come on. If you cut out the reason at least replace it. It’s a an easy, unexplained way to cast doubt on the idea that Ethan himself is not the killer.
dizwod
That always confused me…. but was a brilliant game whilst it lasted
Moakesice
I wonder how close to the game it will be storyline wise, because the game was like watching a film anyway
dizwod
I hear they are going to have a family dynamic story line, introduce peoples fathers and uncles into the film, much like the ruin that would happen to uncharted.
I will cry if they actually did do that though :(

I’ll only go and see it if the first 15 minutes are devoted solely to a man running around a shopping mall shouting “Jason, Jason, Jason, Jason” with an X floating over his head.
Pedromr
hahaha, made me spit coffee all over my desk… Good thing my boss is out…
PoorPaddy89
I’d love to be one of the first screenings when lots of the game fans are there – You’ll hear a lot of “Jason!” throughout, especially in that scene. And when the blu-ray comes out I want a bonus 20 minutes of unseen “Jason!” footage.
nissan_84
They could always use the infamous ‘Press X to Jason’ music vid as the film’s intro:

Or save it for Heavy Rain: the musical…
