PSN “End of May” Stories – Don’t Panic

We’re seeing stories appear around the web about the PSN not returning until the 31st of May. After a quick dig deeper, it seems that these stories have all sprung up after a statement made to Bloomberg by Shigenori Yoshida in which he states that the company’s plan to return full services by the 31st May is unchanged.

Many stories we’ve seen are concerned that what that statement means is that the PSN will not be back online before then – making it six weeks of total downtime for the service. We’re more inclined to believe that the statement is actually just a reaffirmation of the previously stated goal to get the Store up by the end of the month. Other services were supposed to start rolling out last week but have obviously missed that rough target. We still expect that Sony are working to get those services up and running long before the Store’s targeted reinstatement at the end of the month.

Hopefully SCE can cut this speculation off quickly by offering another statement on the issue as soon as possible. They do seem to have gone quiet again since missing the deadline for some resumption of services.

    • Clever link. I never realised you could link to a certain section of a video :-)

      • Yeah, copy URL at current time…

      • Append #t=2m15s or whatever to end of the URL, not sure if it works on the longerform URLs like for embedded or related videos, if not delete from the question mark to the end then append the time

  1. I just hope that they keep us informed, they don’t seem to be at the moment. :/

  2. Not really bothered, really don’t enjoy online gaming, I especially hate being forced to play online to obtain a platinum trophy. Personally I wish you could achieve a platinum offline.

    • Well you can if you buy a offline only game ;)

    • You can also obtain plats in certain games like Dead Space 2 just playing offline, even though it has mp as well.

I kinda see what you are saying in regards to mulitplayer trophies (as some can be a bit on the ridiculous side), but i actually wouldn’t give up online interaction for the world these days. My console has been missing a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ since the PSN has been down.

I think the saying is ‘you don’t know what you have ’til it’s gone’! (for me at least anyway)

  3. Starting to get fed up with this. If they only get the Store back up end of May I – as a Plus member – expect A LOT MORE compensation than 30 free days of Plus. I mean, I’d have lost more than 30 days to begin with.

Don’t tell me to stop complaining. I paid for this.

    • I completely agree, we bought the console for a reason, and if its not working, we all deserve something back, otherwise people will be off.

    • Er.. wasn’t there something about free games as well?

      • Yes, that’s for everyone apparently. I’m talking about my Plus membership.

      • It’s 30 days plus the number of days the service is unavailable for. So what’s that, about 50 days in total so far?

  4. It hasn’t effected me too much, I’m quite happy playing SP games, although I am missing my MW2 MP fix! I just really want PSN to be up for Brink though, and for my PS3 not to break before then!

  5. Although I am getting a bit cheesed off with all this, my anger is not aimed at Sony. The people that caused this are the people we should be angry at.
Really feel for Sony at the moment. All the people moaning about it still being offline. Obviously Sony want everything back to normal as soon as possible. This is hurting their reputation, they are making no money on the PSN, customers are fleeing, certain game sales are and will be affected.
I imagine that they are being pressed about this matter from everyone and anyone.
    Hope it all ends soon.

  6. Sony don’t have a f-ing clue about what happened. After each missed weeked they reply with something like we are unaware of the extent. They now realise the have a huge problem that they ignored for the past year, and they’re paranoid that it’ll happen again, and it will. They’re going to check everything so much that when it’s time to go live with the PSN the servers will be outdated again. May 31st sounds like a rumor, but if you would have said back on 21/4 that on 9/5 the PSN would still be down everybody would have called B.S. on that too. Sony has just proved to the world that they’re not capable of running a network. Tomorrow they’ll issue another statement saying that they need to shut down BD-live now because that was comprised too, and that they’re still committed to protecting our personal information, then Friday we’ll get the “within the week” update again, and then it’ll be the 16th and we’ll start all over again. Maybe they’ll have a working PSN floor demo at E3.

    • The irony in this is if you run CFW you can access CoD BlOps (and I’d imagine other games that offer LAN access) on-line by using LAN, some modded files, and a PC.

  7. This isn’t good, how can I copy my damn PSP/PSone games to the PSP?. I better be this week

  8. I want the Red Faction: Armageddon demo and link Portal 2 to my Steam account for a second playthrough…

  9. I just want to be able to change the channel without being asked to sign-in :-( (PlayTV user)

    • Haha, it was annoying me too so I turned it off. Series Link, etc. still work, you just get slightly different EPG descriptions of programs.

You can turn it off by doing a Channel Scan.
