WeView: Heavy Rain

So, Heavy Rain. What an unusual concept for a game. If this doesn’t completely divide the community then I’m not sure what game will. With its fairly unique approach to story telling and gameplay this seems like it should split the community again.

There’s no denying that Quantic Dream’s goal for Heavy Rain was truly breathtaking. The real question is did they manage to convert their vision into something we can actually play? Well we didn’t think they’d quite managed it when we reviewed it last February.

Heavy Rain has arrived with a bang. It’s flashy, technically stunning but ultimately slightly empty.

Characters vary from vapid to engaging, the FBI agent a highlight but lead Ethan tends to look bored rather than desperate. If you’re looking for a decent story with minimal interactivity to occupy a wet weekend, one cut with mystery and suspense, Quantic Dream’s latest might be right up your street, but gamers looking for anything else will be left out in the rain.

A great idea, but unfortunately one not fully realised.

Ultimately it just seems it was missing a little something. Our score reflects that, putting it at a 7. However, I can almost hear some of you shouting that we were so very wrong about the game. Take a breath, remember those words, head over to the forums and put them down in electronic form.

Once you’ve done that remember to give it a score on the Buy ItBargain Bin It, Rent ItAvoid It scale. Finally, if you want it included in the verdict post on Monday you need to get all of that done by Sunday afternoon, otherwise I’ll have already written the article.

  1. Love the game so much, so i will be posting my thoughts in due time. Im sure ive seen the actor who plays ethan in the national lottery advert :S anyone else notice this?

    • just realized this is the perfect game for me to review hence the name :L

  2. Loved the game, apart from the glitches and IMO who turned out to be the origami killer was a bit of a crap choice which almost wrecked the story.

Whoever reviewed HR on here dosen’t have a clue what they’re on about :) Then again, this site does dole out 10/10’s to pretty much anything 360 exclusive, so that says it all really, a mix of xbox fanboys and obsessed with FPS, so long as they’re not PS3 exclusive, that’ll earn them a 7 :)

  3. This game was a nosedive compare to Fahrenheit.I hope QD will give back the adventure part in their next game.I did enjoy HR for a first few hours, but the lack of gameplay was frustratingafter a while.

  4. I only picked up my copy a month ago and have got quite a way through it, really enjoying the Move compatibility. For me it is a great game, it’s a welcome change from the FPS’s and other adventure games I’m always playing even if it does have minor flaws. If I was gonna write a review on what I’ve seen so far then I’d give it 9/10, hurrah for QD :)

  5. One.of the stand out games of this gen.

  6. Mine is written, don’t think it’s review of the week material this week, but it’s my succinct thoughts nontheless.

  7. JAAAASSSSSOOOOOOOOOONNNN! we are going to be hearing a lot of them. I sold my copy last year to pay for a new controller when my TSA one broke.:( It was fun but it did have it’s flaws

  8. love it!

  9. Great Game

  10. If you want to explore all the different options, then Bargain Bin. If you just want to play it once, rent it. I enjoyed it, despite having it spoiled for me. But yes, it was definitely missing something. Possibly the cancellation of the rest of the DLC bar the Taxidermist contributed to this.
