Meet the Reader: Crazy_Del

You said about fond memories, and I just wonder if you can possibly say which console it was you have the fondest from?

Easily the N64 and Goldeneye. It was the best gaming experience and one to remember forever.

I’m with you on Goldeneye! Now I asked it for films, so I should for games too. What’s the worst game you own? Do you have any guilty pleasures?

Hmmmm. let me see… Pure Football is the worst and I still own it! The Prison Break game was terrible but it’s my favourite TV series box set. Saw was utter rubbish and I still own that too.

The worst games I have ever played and got the platinum for are Rogue Warrior and Terminator: Salvation.

Ah yes, you’re something of a trophy whore, aren’t you?

Was a trophy whore. I’ve stopped collecting trophies now as they are pointless to me. I mentioned my reasons in the TSA Boosting thread.

Oh, did you? I completely missed that.

You should check it out, a lot of TSA members understand and agree with me.

A fairly recent rendition of Del’s trophy card. That’s a lot of Platinums!

OK, so now that you’re not buying every game under the sun, what games from the back half of 2011 are you looking forward to?

Uncharted 3, Battlefield 3, Batman: Arkham City, Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, Bioshock Infinite, SSX, F1 2011, Darkness 2, NFS: The Run, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Resistance 3, Saints Row, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, Driver: San Francisco, Prey 2, Dues Ex and Gears of War 3.

Alright, alright! My own fault with that one. What single game are you most looking forward to?

Hmm. Out of all of them I’d say Uncharted 3. Hence it being the first on the list.

You’ve been signed up with TSA for nearly 2 years now. How did you come across TSA and decide to sign up?

Well I was a lurker around 2007. TSA had fantastic hands on, and there was also the trophy list by Skibadee and Zuler. Where is Zuler these days, by the way? I also came across the forums and had a chuckle in there and notice how mature TSA was and decide to switch from Guest to Member.

You’re quite a regular fixture at TSA meets and the occasional competition, but you’ve never got your headset on! Now I hope there’s an exceedingly good reason for this?

Yes there is, I was born deaf. To explain a little, I can hear sound, music, TV and everything. Even a phone ringing, but I cannot answer it as I am a lip reader, and have to read lips to understand. I can hear a sound on the radio but don’t know the full scores. I hope some of these examples are understandable.

I think I get it. You can hear and make out the gunfire and explosions in Uncharted, but not what Sully shouts at you, or what we’re saying over the headsets?

[drop] Well, unless it has subtitles.

Or L.A. Noire style performance capture?

Oh, L.A. Noire was a fantastic game and surprisingly I can lip read these characters. It’s a bit scary.

Hopefully a sign of things to come. There’s been a ton of different features on the TSA front page over the years. What’s been your favourite?

Well I did had a favourite and miss it badly I believe it was called Abridged Too Far. Where one of the TSA writers recreated a funny story from a game but in his own way. I hope you know what I’m talking about!

I do indeed, Lewis’ work has been in everyone’s favourites, pretty much!

Was it Lewis? A fantastic writer, and he made my day at work when I was feeling down or bored. Will be sure to remember him.

Maybe if people send him enough threatening letters he might do some more over on ScreenDemon. We’ve also run a ton of competitions in the last 9 months or so since the Community Team was formed. Has there been a standout competition, championship or tournament you’ve seen?

Well, I was going to be in the TSA vs. OPC Motorstorm Apocalypse battle, but I blame you and OPC for setting the date of the competition for when I was at Download Festival! I heard what happened and you, the mighty ducking lord, have let me down!

Don’t blame me, half our racers had to pull out as they couldn’t make it! We’ll get them next time, though. Definitely.

I am SHOCKED! Anyway, I also won one competition with a code to the PSP game Blimp: The Flying Adventures, and because of that, I think it was the best competition of the year!

Just a little bit biased. Who would you say is the TSA member you’d most like to meet in real life?

That is hard to be honest…. I’d say Skibadee, as I’ve spent a lot of time playing co-op games with him. So yeah would like to meet him and Forrest_01 too. He looks like an interesting fellow. Of course, there’s also Harm Rehal (formerly da_buckethead), yourself, Freezebug and Manorhowze.

But definitely Skibadee, and I would like to buy him a pint!

Well you’ve exhausted my set of questions. Are there any final words you’d like to share?

A huge thanks for you taking the time to write this about me and your help on TSA website. Big thanks to Flexxible for the trophy leaderboard, as it has given me a great challenge to be in the top 5 which I think I did!

Keep up the great work, TSA, and keep the meets and the community stuff coming as I am loving it. Good luck to Spooferbarnabas for being in charge of the Killzone 3 Clan and I will soon join him.

Finally, a big thanks to the TSA Boosters for helping, as well as DrNate, Grey_Ghost and BlackRedYellow on CoD: Black Ops Zombies which was tons of fun. Thanks to Skibadee for all the co op games too!

Thank you and Good Night.

I did say a few words, and almost got an essay! Regardless, thanks to Del for being our latest interviewee, and once again hope he has a delightful wedding day on the 8th of July. Who’s to be next? Well, we will finally get our special guest interview…

  1. A great read, and a great member too! In response to the CoD Zombies, you are welcome! That was probably my most treasured gaming moment for quite some time, seeing Nate fire a bolt into your ass and watching you run into a horde of crawling flesh eaters! Good times…

Although I understand your reasons for giving up the trophy side of things, I can’t help but feel a little disappointed. One of the things that always spurred me on was to look at your collection on PSN, in the hope I’d have a trophy you didn’t, realise that was a foolish thing hope for, and carry on playing! Still, I respect your decision and maybe I can do some catching up now ;)

    • Cheers Mike and blackredyellow, I have to agree that CoD was the most treasured gaming moment, had barrels of fun and laugh trying to get a bow on everyone’s arse lol.

    • What can I say? No matter where I aim, I always seem to find the ass (ooh Matron!).

Really interesting to read you can lip read the LA Noire faces, it’s good but I hadn’t realised it was that good!

  2. Interesting read! Nice to meet you del. Didnt know you were deaf, same as a lot of people on here probably. Somehow I pictured you with long hair, and expected you to look like otto from the simpsons, only without the jaundice. Good luck for you wedding fella. looking forward to OpFlach Red river co-op soon! Also love your game collection

    • Seconded on the wedding. Hope it’s a great day for you both mate.

    • Yup, I didn’t realise Del was deaf either, until we were talking a few minutes before the interview. I thought he just didn’t have a headset, or something. :)

    • where does it mention hes deaf?

      • It’s on the second page of the interview, a couple questions below his trophy card. Are you blind, or something?!

        *Badum-tisch!* :P

      • BOOM! lol

  3. haha great read, i havnt checked out the boosting thread but you cant stop on 62 plats, its just too many :L im really enjoying these meet the reader and staff articles :) 500 dvds is quite a lot, im on about 300 or more i think, but “AVP reqium” is not the worst film i have seen out of my collection. Mine would have to be “Cloverfield” (bloody motion sickness from that). And my favourite film is tied between “Inception” and “Catch Me If You Can”, as you can tell i do like di caprio. Also i found Terminator Salvation a really enjoyable plat on coop, one of the best coop games i have played, honest!! And i am with you on golden eye on N664, i used to go over my friends house to play it all the time :)

  4. Good to meet you Del, an enjoyable read. One glance at your trophies is enough to make me give up too :p
Best of luck to you and your missus-to-be!

  5. Wicked read :D

  8. Lovely to meet you, Del. Funny and fascinating to read about LA Noire. That must’ve been quite the pleasant surprise.

Best of luck with the wedding.

    Great article too, tef. :-)
