RAGE’s Mandatory PS3 Install is On The Big Side

So we already knew that RAGE had a staggering (albeit optional) game install of about 22GB on the Xbox 360. PS3 owners won’t have a say in the matter, with a mandatory 8GB install.

Not so bad with one of the newer machines with the large hard drives, but maybe an issue with the older 40/60GB models. Still, hopefully the game will be worth it.

  1. Good thing I just stuck a 640g HDD in my PS3 then =)

    • where day get it from? well was it cheap lol I’ve seen bits about 1tb drives that work with the ps3 but dont wanna risk it really.

  2. I’ve currently got about 20gb left from my 320gb(298gb technically) HDD.

And I don’t even have any music or pictures and only about 4 films on there lol

need a bigger hdd me thinks!?

    • Just a few things installed on there! I have around 20 PS3 games currently and I have 20GB / 80GB left…

  3. 320gb slim, no problemo.

  4. I can stomach an 8GB install. Metal Gear Solid 4 had an 8GB install and that didn’t really take all that long at all

  5. Not a problem for me, but my original 60GB phat has got fatter.

tbh, if a full install was optional and improved performance (faster load times / less texture pop-up), I’d do that.

360 situation is a bit dodgy. It can run without an install but suffers quite badly. The alternative is a massive 22GB install which although ok with me isn’t going to be ok with many people.

  6. As long as this actually makes the game constantly run smoothly, it’s not too much of an issue. I guess it’s just the time and space.

  7. Not as bad as I thought. if it makes the game run better can’t complain to much.

  8. i really need to get a new hard drive one day.

it’s not so much the size i mind, it’s waiting ages for it to install the first time i play it.
it would be better if it installed in the background while you play.
install the data in the order you’ll need to access it and it should be possible.

  9. 640Gb Hard Drive – £42 on Amazon – Sorted.

  10. Mmm well with my current Hard Drive i’m not going to get this as i have to free space constantly. I am however in the market fot a new HDD so who knows. It’s the swapover that bothers me though as i dont know which hard drive to buy, how to install it etc. I’m fine with redownloading things it just the other stuff.
