In-Game Footage Leaked From Cancelled Avengers Title 16

Before its closure earlier this month it appears that THQ Studio Australia was working on a video game adaptation of The Avengers. Assets including concept art and even test footage from the title were leaked by laid off staff, one QA tester claiming that the tie-in had since been cancelled.

Unfortunately the said video has since been removed from the web due to Marvel copyright claims, though we did manage to watch it in full last night. The reel showed what looked like clips from numerous projects the studio had in the works including a first person shooter and footage of what appeared to be an animation of a rat in an urban backdrop. We also caught sight of a beastly-looking Thor tackling a Skrull brute as well as Captain America and an unfinished Hawkeye.

We suspect Marvel is trying to shutter out any existence of the video simply due to the fact that the Skrulls have been spotted. Merely speculation and rumour in the past, this could turn out to be a major leak for Marvel who has yet to announce any major plot details for The Avengers movie.

Hearing about games being shelved is never good news, especially when leaks such as these soon follow. However, given the developers track record (Megamind, The Last Airbender, Spongebob Squarepants) this could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Though we have already mentioned that the project has supposedly been cancelled, there is no doubt that a license as promising as The Avengers will be shopped elsewhere.

SEGA, if you are reading this, get Next Level Games on the line; we’d sooner see a game somewhat akin to the surprisingly good Captain America than the abysmal Iron Man 2 or Thor.
