Saints Row: The Third Has ’40 Weeks Of DLC’

At a keynote presentation at ‘Cloud Gaming USA’ in San Jose, THQ CEO Brian Farrell spoke of new business models and ‘an online digital ecosystem.’

He also revealed that Saints Row: The Third will have more than 40 weeks of DLC. That’s forty, four-zero, not four.

Farrell said that the DLC ‘will grow and change the experience as the consumer engages with the game.’

  1. so what?! a load of guns and vehicles left out so you can pay extra for them as the weeks go on??

    • Yup, this will take the DLC crown from Codies (DiRT 3) for DLC-left-out-of-the-game-to-cash-in-on.

      • DiRT 3 was ridiculous. I can’t believe that’s the route they took. Will think twice about buying any game from them again.

      • Dirt 3 pissed me off so much.. I got so frustrated and lost a lot of interest..

This doesn’t mention anything specific – cost (if any), what it will be, so although I’m a little annoyed, it will remain on my ‘interested’ list..

    • Ditto, just lost all interest in this game.

  2. Day 1 purchase is now lost
Not getting this! Dammit THQ you theiving milking b******

    • Tbh this game was always a £17.99 or below game for me.

      • I think I bought the second one on the 360 about 2 mnths after release for 6 quid in Sainsburys.

      • Can get it at Christmas but it won’t feel like a complete game if you know what I mean.

      • lol how will it not feel like a complete game when you don’t know what the game is like or what the dlc is like lol.

i played through fallout 3 then had to wait over a year for the dlc! there was no chance on this planet I was going to miss out on such a good game just because of future dlc(that wasn’t even announced for the ps3)

  3. sounds expensive.

  4. I cancelled my pre-order when I read about this the other day.

  5. To the Majority,
Have fun getting ripped off. That’s all current-gen gaming is about.

    • To Raditz,

Please come back after you have dismounted from your high horse.

      Love

      Everyone else.

      • … So let me get this straight. You’re in favour of getting an incomplete game instead of the full game? I find it sad how people don’t mind paying extra for stuff that should have been in the completed version. Not “oh, we’ll throw this in another time to get as much money as we can from those suckers.”

I feel sorry for the offline gamers wanting this game. But, of course, I guess you and everyone else ignores them and still thinks DLC is not a bad idea. Sure, this DLC for SR3 may just be an extra bit of clothing for your character each week. But what if its something big, like most DLC these days? Maybe even a new vehicle? But again, the people who cannot get online gaming are getting screwed out of a lot of the good stuff

*Ridiculously huge and angry rant over.

      • radlitz…. yes it’s a current gen thing. The xbox and ps2 are still available for your gaming needs.

stumbled across this a while ago you might want to read, it’s about prices of games and how much they cost to produce.

btw it’s a fair few years old before the release of the 360 or PS3.

Developers/Publishers make a hefty amount on selling the games alone. DLC is there for milking every last penny. A prime example of that is COD. There are some games out there that don’t sell too many copy’s of their games, and then they release one or two pieces of small DLC. Which is okay in my book. But when a huge corporation like THQ does it, when they know they’ll sell a bucket load of Saints Row copy’s, and adds a LOT of DLC content, then it really starts to take the piss.

P.S I don’t think gamers want to be resorting back to their old consoles. But, they have no choice. When they get sick of the current-era, they do so. I did this. I’m playing nothing but a few PC games, my Dreamcast, and my N64. The Dreamcast and N64 still actually work without a hitch, they have great games, and I don’t have to mess around with any online crap.

      • Ok mate opinion noted.

  6. Knee jerk reaction much? We have no idea what this DLC will entail. Everybody put your pitchforks down.

    • It is worded rather oddly – “40 weeks worth of DLC” – does that mean DLC every week for 40 weeks or does it mean “The DLC will take 40 weeks for an average gamer to complete”.

      More info pls THQ

    • Considering that it’s been announced before the game has even come out, It’s a pretty safe bet to assume it’s just stuff already on the disc and sold as a 100kb unlock code.

  7. There are two ways to look at this. First, they could release an awesome game that just gets bigger and better if you want to keep playing. Second, they could release a barren open world and expect you to spend to populate it. If it’s the former, I wish them well. If it’s the latter I hope it turns out to be a spectacular failure.

  8. I doubt it’s anything massive. I’m expecting clothes, guns and maybe a mission or two.

Either way, you don’t have to pay for it.

  9. That’s me waiting for the GOTY edition then.

  10. I swear if it is content that was cut out just so they could milk the game, i won’t be happy. In fact, i may even boycott the game by waiting untill it is £15 and buy it preowned. :op

seriously, they better have a good reason for this also, what do they mean by 40 weeks? Is it one DLC per week or one massive expansion that will take 40 weeks? If it is just songs for the in game radio, i will be giving it the silent treatment and refuse to adknowledge the DLCs.
