One of these weeks we’ll forget that the PlayStation Store update is on a Wednesday and it’ll be late, and we won’t have written a witty intro. Instead, we’ll just dump out the list and then – walk away.
Not this week, though. No. No way.
So, er, enjoy Borderlands for cheap, and Mercury, and a ridiculously expensive download for FIFA 12. Just don’t come crying to us when you’re saddened by the lack of our usual flare and poise on these articles.
Seriously.

Anyone who hasn’t got Borderland; just bloody buy it. I got the GOTY edition on PS3 and loved it so much I bought it again on Steam when it was in the sale. Absolutely love it. I’m not a big shooter fan but Borderlands is one hell of an exception.
OllyBobs
Haha! “just bloody buy it” love it!
TSBonyman
Not a bad update .Dead Nation expansion and probably Mercury Hg for me. I played the Rochard demo and liked the intro song but not so much the game itself. Child of Eden seems a bit expensive so i’ll wait for a discount on it.
teflon
Bought OnLive’s PlayPack, which includes Borderlands. Might finally give this game a good crack of the whip, see if it’s for me…

Not much for me this week.
The pricing on PSN really is a problem has to be gotten round. Its just not competititve or aggressive enough. Its very rare to look on there and think your getting a really amazing deal. It’s a much more regular occurence on something like Steam, last time it happened to me was when then the GOW Collection was offered for £16 back in April, I cant even remember when it was before that or if it even happened.
I realise that there are some issues such as not wanting to undercut other retailers, but if Sony want the PSN to be taken as a serious platform for people to download full titles they have to try a lot harder to resolve these issues.
Smallville2106
Completely agree. I’ve not bought much for ages because of the pricing.
BrendanCalls
I buy very little from the PSN, generally becuase I never feel like I’m getting a deal I just cant refuse. I’m guessing the vast majority of gamers are on tight budgets so an aggressive pricing structure is necessary to sell to the masses, especially seeing as the competition is so strong and getting stronger every year
BrendanCalls
Actually, I’ve just seen the price of the Borderlands pack (I thought it was selling for £27.99, but its £11.99) and that is a very competitive price. I’ve got it in my OnLive PlayPack now though so still wont be purchasing at the moment.
I still stand by what I said though, in general terms PSN needs to improve the pricing structure

Do we get a free trial period of Free Realms (like 30 days etc) or do you have to buy the subscription straight away?
TheDeathAvenger
I believe that Free Realms is free-to-play, I think the subscription allows you to progress to higher levels (i.e., access loads more content). I think without a subscription you can’t progress past job level 4.
E8_BALL_
oops, just read your post. Sorry Avenger.
(see below.)
R4U Eldave0
*wonders if the fact he bought RE4 HD AND hes a PS+ member means he will get Code Veronica at 7.99 plus a 50% discount ;)*
moshi
I’m wondering that too.
moshi
It’s not even half price, £8.
TheDeathAvenger
Highly doubt that you’ll get both discounts, I think it’ll still cost you 8 quid.
Jim H [Teabags]
Good to see Free Realms finally launching in the EU.
E8_BALL_
Agreed, never thought it would actually happen. Free Realms? I thought the basic package was free, not £4 per mth? (there’s an optimist inside me somewhere, waiting to show itself, i’m sure of it:)
E8_BALL_
I assume you can play for free, but if you want extras, they start at £4.
andymclelland
Result! Been looking at getting Boarderlands GOTY for ages, and the download price is cheaper than buying the disc now. What is Free Realms anyhow? I heard something about it a while ago but nothing since.
E8_BALL_
Think DCUO, meets Walt Disney. (utube will help better describe it.)
E8_BALL_
How can they sell borderlands, when only once have I been able to get past online menu, without it freezing my console.
Forrest_01
To be honest mate, i think that may be an issue that is entirely localised to you!
I know i never had any problems with Borderlands & don’t recall anyone else having any either. In fact, i recall the co-op being rather smooth.
Anyone else had similar issues?
moshi
2 corrupted saves for me.
Forrest_01
Really? Ouch, that sucks!
Well either i was lucky & had a faultless experience, or you two were quite unlucky it would seem.
E8_BALL_
Dont see how, have no connectivity issues with any other game. I’ve read of others with same issue, not tsaers evidently.
E8_BALL_
If someone has never experienced it & it’s not mentioned on this, or any forum they may visit, then they wouldn’t know about it. If you search google for “borderlands menu freezing,” the first page is full of info regarding this.
Forrest_01
Fair enough – Never had any problems myself, so never smoething i have had to reseach to be fair.
When was the last time you tried to play it?
E8_BALL_
Just loaded it up, to see if there was a patch since I last played, unfortunately not.
Then I selected online game & on selecting join game, ps3 froze.
E8_BALL_
I just tried the option to host a match, as oppose to joining one & no freezing, story cut-scene started playing. Not the ideal solution, but progress. Now i’ll just have to hope someone joins:) With a re-release, chances are greatly improved.
moshi
What a absolute steal Borderlands is, may b tempted just to have it on the HDD being the lazy sod I am.
The Lone Steven
You might as well as i think the only other way to get it at that price is to buy it preowned and thus miss out on the DLC if it is the GOTY edition you are tempted by.
Forrest_01
Actually, thehut are selling the GoTY for £12.85 atm, so not far off. Still though, that version has a disc that has to be put in!!
Additionally (& actually on topic for once!), anyone know how much the Borderlands GoTY weighs in at MB/GB wise?
moshi
It’s not on the store yet unless I’m going blind.
E8_BALL_
I have goty ed. 2423MB.
I’m annoyed I can’t play online. Campaign is great, but mp so much better.
E8_BALL_
Shit lol, no i don’t. Just double checked box & it’s the reg, was getting mixed up with my fallout3 goty ed.
