UK PSN Store Now Offers TV Episodes

The UK PlayStation Network Video Store has had a minor upgrade. You can now buy individual TV episodes – plenty in HD – to download and keep on your console.

There is certainly plenty of choice with US TV shows making up the bulk of the content. It seems like this is the fruition of a deal between Sony and Sky TV. Shows like Arrested Development, Breaking Bad, South Park and Two and a Half Men will attract PlayStation fans who don’t keep a Sky subscription and are reluctant to use grey-area download sites or other means, like iTunes, to get the best of US television.

Unfortunately, the selection of episodes on offer does seem a little bizarre. For example, there are seasons one and six of 24 available but nothing in between or after. Dollhouse season two is available but there’s no first season.

Episodes seem to be priced between £1.49 and £2.49 each, in SD or HD but there’s no option to buy full seasons of shows.

Is this something you’ll use?

Thanks, poultee

  1. bout bleedin time.

didn’t think we’d ever see tv shows on the UK video store.
a shame nobody at scee thought that telling us was a good idea or anything.
i mean clearly, we’re the last people who should know right? o_O

anyway, the prices seem to be in line with what itunes charges for tv shows.
for single episodes anyway, they really need some series passes for the shows so you can save money on a full season.

and the line up needs work, too many series seem to start with season 3 or 4.
but i assume the line up will improve over time, it’s not entirely fair to judge based on the first week.

there’s some anime too, which is cool.
strangely some of it isn’t in the animation category.

and happy happy joy joy, ren and stimpy.

overall, it seems like a good start, but it does need more content and some sales and maybe free pilot episodes like itunes do sometimes would be nice.
what better way is there to get people buying a series than giving the pilot away free?

and it definitely needs more british shows.
all i saw was that Billie Piper call girl series and some best of Monty Python shows, but for seven quid for each hour long episode they’re taking the piss a bit.

  2. Bit pricy, season coverage sounds sparse too, if there’s any shows i really love i might consider it, otherwise no deal probably..

  3. Surprisingly TV shows are also available on the German PSN video store since last Thursday’s update. But the price for invidual episodes is too high.

  4. Seriously when is ireland getting this bloody vid store?!!
