Codemasters have posted the first work-in-progress gameplay footage taken from DiRT Showdown, an aracde-ish spin off of the DiRT franchise.
The Nevada 8 Ball trailer is set in the sun baked Nevada desert and features a variety vehicles jostling for position whilst making jumps and smashing into each other.
‘Pyrotechnics, lasers and thousands of fans give each venue a vibrant sports entertainment atmosphere, with the player taking centre stage,’ say Codemasters.
The game will feature - woohoo! - split-screen multiplayer! Plus eight-player online racing, on and off-line quick-fire party games and YouTube integration and will hit the shelves this May.

Provided a rally focussed Dirt game & Grid 2 haven’t been shelved (which there is no indication of) and this is very clearly a spin-off that has been developed alongside and not in lieu of, then I will not write it off just yet. Very reminiscent of Destruction Derby so looks like mindless fun for multiplayer, less fun for anyone called JamboGT ;)

I’m still interested. It might not be exactly what i want from codies but at least its now sepearte from the proper stuff. I ignored all the online party stuff from Dirt3, just wanted to race cars and not fart around with them.

It’s basically what The Run is to the NFS franchise, just a gap filler really, and it will probably end up being a PSN title for £70 :P

Just to clarify a few things!
Alongside DiRT Showdown which as you might have gathered is a more arcade style offering, there will also be a future rally focused title from the Codemasters racing studio.
Finally, we all know how popular GRID was with the community and I can confirm we have a GRID 2 planned for the future :)
