UK Charts: FIFA Back on Top

Once again a FIFA title takes the top spot in the UK chart, although this time it’s FIFA Street rather than the usual annual update (that’s at number four!). Apparently it’s pretty good, scoring an 8/10 in our review. Mass Effect 3 drops to second place, and you can read our review here.

Twisted Metal has also finally been released, charting at number 12. It’s actually a higher spot than I anticipated. Alex ended up liking the game, despite not clicking with it at first.

Then there’s the list of all the familiar chart faces. Assassin’s Creed: Modern Battlefield Fitness at the Olympic Games 2012.

    Crikey, EA.

  2. EA are having a good start in 2012 top 4 is just them no one else.

Good to see twisted metal up there at 12

  3. With Sony’s continued support of GAME, I bet Twisted Metal was one of the few new titles they’ve stocked this month. Unlike Mass Effect 3, FIFA Street & Mario Party 9 – I think it’s a title which needed shelf space.

Looking at the chart though, what a shower of shit – every single thing is a franchise, except RAGE’s appearance in the top 10.

    • Go Rage! I was genuine pleased to see it there. Not just as it was/is a new IP, not as its a bloody decent game!

Not much happening for the Vita titles.

The message to publishers is “Do not back new stuff, ever! We only want the same old stuff”

      • Screw innovation! I want to see more generic bald space marines and more sequels! *destroys his copies of new IPs* :p

      • *oops meant 3, not 2.

      • Rage is only there because it’s piss cheap at GAME, too.

      • I would argue 8 isnt a franchise btw. But I agree with this in the fact we need more new IPs and innovation.

      • People don’t buy them though, what’s the point?

People want incremental improvements they don’t want new stuff, people have voted with the loudest voice they have, their wallets.

It’s why I buy far, far fewer retail games than I’ve ever done at any point in the last 30 years. Digital games both on the PS3 & PC is where it’s at for me. It’s long been said the retail boxed business model is broken but I can only see the publishers actions are hastening the end.

      • I too dont understand why the casual gaming market is so focused on big franchises. I try to broaden my range of video games that I play, and would encourage other gamers to do so. But it will never work.
I would like to see the video game industry like the film industry, only the instance when a new original film comes out it is praised and does pretty well. not the case with video games.

  4. I didn’t know Blizzard help Acti with COD:MW3. Seeing as Skyrim is falling down the charts, i wonder if the price will drop as it’s been selling for full price since it’s release(with a few exceptions).

How come Bioware’s name is not next to ME3? Surely, it would be a good idea to include the developer in order not to risk annoying them and thus having them leave you. I would be pretty annoyed if i developed a game and the publisher had just their name next to it.

    • Um it’s the name of the publisher? It has been for some time.

  5. Pleased to see TM charting well considering its an exclusive.
As a side note, my local Tesco didn’t get the memo that TM was pushed back one week from the 9th to the 16th. They had all their copies out and priced up when I did my weekly shop on the 10th :)

  6. I’m actually a bit shocked by Fifa Street, not because its not a good game (I thought the demo was excellent), but I thought it was more of a niche game, but seems its appealing to a lot of people!

  7. At least the UK public likes Uncharted 3 more than BF3 and UC3 hasn’t had many price drops.

    • I finally got battlefield on pc last week and it cost me £26 pounds (direct from origin with a code) for the standard edition. I looked everywhere and that really was the cheapest, origin now have a 50% sale on so its £20 and £32 the the LE. however that just for pc and and the cheapest its been on console over the last month is £28 online and its over £30 now. Uncharted 3 however is £14.99 at blockbuster now and £20 at most places, but its a ps3 exclusive and sold less at realese so its still quite impressive that it beat battlefield considering neither game had any large sales.

  8. EA have 6 games in the top 20. Pretty good for them!

  9. EA are certainly on fire. Glad to see FIFA street on top, not that im surprised as it is FIFA after all, as it is a cracking game even though i seem to be as useful as a chocolate fireplace.

  10. Shite I want twisted metal, forgot it was out.
