PSN Down For Thirteen Hours Tomorrow

Looks like Sony have now got a bloke that tells people when PSN is going down. He’ll be a busy chap – the PSN feel like it’s down every week of late.

“I’m here today to let you know that we will be performing routine scheduled maintenance on the network on Monday, April 16th, starting at approximately 6:00 am PDT / 9:00 am EDT,” says SCEA’s Matthew Harper.

“This maintenance will last roughly 13 hours, concluding around 7:00pm PDT / 10:00 pm EDT. During much of this time, users won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, Account Management or play online.”

“PSN enabled websites will not be able to service users, including this one.”

Sounds like it’s the whole shebang, eh? I make that about 2pm tomorrow our time, although I fully expect to be corrected in the comments. There’s nothing on the EU Blog about this.

  1. Oh no! I have to play singleplayer? Aah, scream, etc.

    • The ‘only’ way to play…… multiplayer sucks

      • Quite a silly blanket comment you’ve got there.

      • “multiplayer sucks”

Does the thought of playing against real people scare you?

      • I only enjoyed assassins creed multiplayer, it’s not that I’m scared but when people become obsessed with games such as call of duty to the point where they know every nook and cranny and have every upgrade that when casual players such as myself play online, all the fun is quickly stripped away and replaced with frustration and usually boredom. Yes you could argue that I should play online more to become better but like I said I’m a casual gamer.

Another reason I think multiplayer isn’t all that is because it’s the same modes in every game, kill your opponent over and over again. Portal 2 is the only game I enjoy that features multiplayer cooperation which is a refreshing change and one I hope more developers choose because just killing each other became boring years ago

      • I understand where you are coming from, but i think to say that multiplayer sucks as a general is too broad a brush stroke.

Also, i think it depends on the type of game you choose to play as i have had many an online experience where the objective is not just to kill your opponent. For example, you could play an entire round of BF3, not kill a soul & still be a valid member of the squad as there are objectives to complete that do not necessarily involve killing people (like capturing flags).

Basically, the only advice i would even attempt to give is to not enter deathmatch type games, as that is likely to be the type of gameplay that will turn you off to mp. Especially in something like CoD.

CoD is a good example of what you were referring to, but a bad example of an online game, as like you rightly pointed out there are people that play just that game for hours on end & can see nothing past that. Then there’s the abuse from foul mouthed 5 year olds to consider…

However, driving games generally don’t involve killing people & i have had some great experiences online racing with others (TSA as well as randoms), there are fighting games which can vary in levels of frustration depending on how ‘elite’ your opponent is, snowboarding/skateboarding games tend to be a bit of a mixed bag but generally fun overall, then you have sports titles, platformers & so on & so forth. & lets not forget co-op multiplayer games as well, as it is often you & a friend or a bunch of friends battling to complete an objective, which can be a great experience.

I would never say to someone that they need to play online more, as we all have times we can & can’t play & preferences for what we wish to play at certain times, so why should you have to put time into something that you aren’t enjoying? All I would say is that there is so much more out there.

  2. Nice. Plenty of notice!
    I hope it’s back up before 3am.

  3. Every time it goes down and then comes back on, I have absolutely no idea, or clue, what has changed (if anything.
I wish they would say what and why – and would be interesting to know during an entire year how much of my PS+ time was unusable.

  4. Cross Game Chat.

  5. Will be sticking to a single player game then :) Maintenance does not bother me one bit

    • same mate not bothered by it as well.

    • I’d go as far as to say I’m quite pleased by it. Better that than the whole hacking fiasco. If this is what it takes to keep the network secure then great, they probably should state the precise reasons though.

      • Exactly what I think. If it’s for making the service safer and secure then I have no complaints.

    • This ^

  6. I make that 2pm until 3am too. Wish Sony would give us more information about what it is they’re doing, the frequency of maintenance is ridiculous.

  7. Quote: “the PSN feel like it’s down every week of late.”

It is, isn’t it? Almost every week I’m on this site, there always seems to be an article about it being down for maintenance.

  8. Getting ready for ps4?

  9. Gives me more time to build LBP levels uninterrupted.

  10. EDT? What the chuff is EDT? As they guy is representing a company which has services which will be affected all across the world I would have thought he’d have the decency to at least put a ‘+/-4GMT’ tag on there.
To help me figure out what EDT is, I Googled EDT and the first result stated that “EDT is 4 hours behind of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)”. That clears it up then.

Thank heavens Nofi for your calculation of ‘2pm’.

    • A rought guess? EDT stands for Eastern (us) seaboard time.

      • Lol! Est? Where’s the d?

      • Timeanddate.com states that “EDT is 4 hours behind of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Note that EDT is a daylight saving time/summer time zone. It is generally only used during the summer in the places listed below, during the winter EST is used instead”
And then they helpfully go on to state that “An email sent from someone in the EDT time zone will have the time zone listed as ‘-0400’ in the headers of the email. (However, ‘-0400’ does not have to be in EDT, as other time zones could have the same UTC offset).”

        That clears that up then.

        [please note my slight sarcasm]

      • Hmmm. Learn something new everyday I guess. Thanks for that.

      • So, EDT is just East Coast time, rolled forward an hour in Spring, then.

      • Eastern daylight time?

      • Easy Denver Time :)

      • Or, Eat Donut Time!
