See How SimCity Burns Down

Burn that mother down.

EA is already hitting the developer videos for SimCity quite hard. SimCity won’t be released until some time in 2013 but they’re keen to show off the new engine that powers it. That engine, GlassBox, seems to keep track of a staggering amount of information.

In this latest video, Dan Moskowitz demonstrates how fire spreads, how the news of that fire spreads and what will happen if you have no fire stations to save your buildings.

it still seems odd to me that they designed the reboot with multiplayer in mind, i can get past the needing to go online to start the game up but i just dont see how multiplayer would either work or add anything to a “God” sim.

This is probably my most anticipated sequel of all time. They better not stuff it up with all the typical EA forced multiplayer, origin, day one dlc, microtransaction bullcrap.

I can almost guarantee all 4 things you listed there will be true, sadly.

Looks really good though, looking forward to it.

Simcity will unfortunately follow the Sims Microtransaction/DLC model, of this I have no doubt whatsoever. If I am wrong I’ll buy it.

Wait why would abandoned houses catch fire more? Surely there’s nothing to cause a fire, unless SimCity relies on spontaneous combustion.

I guess it’s just a random dice roll thing to simulate the effect of bored teenagers and vagrants etc.

Maybe we’ll even get massive, block consuming explosions when idiots break in and try to nick all the piping and blow themselves to pieces.

Ah yes, it’s a very little known that that abandoned houses are more likely to burst into flames despite noone starting a fire in the house or there being anything that could cause it to burst into flames.

Wonder if the fires will be sold as DLC? :p

this looks very odd, can’t hear the vid at work, but it looks about as hitech as it did in the original?
