GT Vita Mentioned In A Survey

Firstly, calm down a bit. Just because it’s mentioned in a bit of advance market research, that doesn’t mean it’ll happen. Oh, who are we kidding? Of course it will happen. Sony will know that a Vita version of Gran Turismo would be a system seller if done properly and they’d be a bit silly if they didn’t release such a strong PlayStation brand on the portable console. Although, I’ll leave you to make up your own jokes about how long the development will take.

So, it’s not surprising to hear GT Vita mentioned. It’s also not surprising to see surveys like the one dug up and sent to IGN by one of their readers. In this survey, the reader was asked about the unannounced game that must surely be coming. He was also asked how interested he was in the game now he knows that it would get him a discount on the PS3 version. That seems an odd question, surely anyone with an interest in Gran Turismo and a PS3 already has it, making a discount largely pointless?

Taking that peculiar question together with the next is interesting though. It seems that Someone is keen to explore future PlayStation Plus perks for those of us lucky enough to own both of Sony’s current consoles: “Imagine that as part of PlayStation Plus, every time you bought a game on either PS3 or PS Vita, you would be entitled to get the game on the other console absolutely free. So, if you bought Resistance on PS Vita, you could download Resistance on PS3 for free. Or if you got FIFA on PS3, you could download the PS Vita version for free.”

So, can we assume that the first question got the platforms mixed up and that people who own the PS3 version of Gran Turismo might end up eligible for a discount on the Vita version? At least, that might be what the survey is exploring.

A third question enquires about formats for purchasing PlayStation 3 games, digital or Blu-ray. It’s only conjecture but maybe the hypothetical discount might apply only to a digital copy?

As always, don’t give too much importance to these questions. These surveys aren’t indicative of plans in the pipeline and they often come to absolutely nothing but there are some interesting thoughts that arise form these questions. I’d certainly become even more enamoured with my PlayStation Plus subscription if it meant very Vita versions of FIFA and others.

  1. Woav if they introduces that Plus perk Vita would be a killer system.

  2. The first picture made me laugh. “Download from the PlayStation Store for £5 less then the average price you would see in a shop or online retailer.” Have they actually seen some of the pricing structures on the PS Store?!

    • That’d be about £55 then :P
Seriously though, they are referring to high street shops prices/ Shopto, Amazon, Play.com etc. average pricing. So in comparisson a £5 saving on their prices would be most appealing. ;)

    • I guess they compare their prices with the most outrageous sellers on places such as eBay and Amazon.
Silly PStore monkeys – That’s no good.

  3. It would be a smart move by Sony. Firstly it would increase sales on their Store, which I should imagine are below par on “main” or AAA titles due to competitive highstreet and supermarket retailers. They could remain more expensive if they were offering a second copy of the game of the same game on your Vita/PS3. Secondly, they will obtain far more PS+ subscriptions which would be a huge MONTHLY revenue, with little costs given that the product is almost entirely digital. I suspect Sony are aiming to have everyone paying a monthly subscription at some point – it’s now Sky and mobile phone companies make so much money.

    How appealing? Very appealing!

  5. Gt vita is an absolute must, it would shift bucket loads of consoles though if they put endurance races in it they need their heads checking.
Buy one copy get other console copy free would do 2 things for me. 1) make me finally get ps+. 2) make me finally get a vita.
Get these things rolling sony and vita will be a roaring success.

    • I’m a bit surprised that a Vita version of GT hasn’t been confirmed as, like you say, would be a console seller.
Buy’ one get one free’ is a great idea, even a ‘buy one get one at a very discounted price’ would be good.

  6. To be fair, I have been holding back from buying a Vita for two reasons. The hope of a really good price decrease (mainly due to the extra’s needed on top of just the basic console), and a Killer game release. There are some fantastic titles out there already for Vita, but I can wait for those, on the other hand a brand new Gran Turismo Vita would very likely push me over the edge.
Also if this new system of cross format perks was ever introduced, then that’d be a good enough reason for me to get on board the Vita bandwagon sooner rather than later!

  7. I’d love that ‘free versions’ thing. It’s working out nicely with PSN stuff already.
There’s actually a AC3+Liberation pre-order bundle on the Store now – but £85 is a bit far off from BOGOF :P

Might depend how far off GT Vita is maybe? Surely Sony will be planning GT6 at some stage so maybe you’d get a discount on that when (if) it ever comes out?

Say GT Vita is 2013 – would late next year or early 2014 be too soon for a new Gran Turismo on PS3? They would know from your account you had the Vita version so could apply the discount whenever GT6 arrives?
