Sony To Go “Family Friendly” With PS3 This Christmas

[drop2]Sony will be going “family friendly” with the PlayStation 3 this Christmas, eschewing core games like God of War and The Last Of Us for titles that’ll appeal to the mass market.

That’s according to the latest Game Informer magazine, which features an interview with Shuhei Yoshida.

“We’d love to have multi-million sellers for the holiday,” said Yoshida, when asked why there were no big blockbusters on the horizon for the console. “But each title needs time to develop, especially new IP like The Last of Us.”

“God of War has always come out in March, so that’s a natural time to aim at,” he added.

“Our strategy for Christmas is to go big on family-friendly titles. This is a neglected genre for the PlayStation 3, but as it matures, I think it’s really important to have these games on the platform.”

“I think we have a great lineup this holiday to complement third parties’ big core games.”

That family friendly line-up is likely to feature LittleBigPlanet Karting and the Smash Bros clone PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, although pushing both of those to a market used to Mario and karaoke games might be a stretch.

  1. More PSMove games like ‘Wonderbook’ then…. hmmm :-| Stick with what you know Sony, excellent core exclusives

  2. If people want family gaming they buy Wii, possibly 360 Kinect. They don’t buy PS3. Your not going to change opinions that easily, as said above, stick with that you know Sony.

  3. PS3 already has great exclusive “hardcore” games coming soon. Might as well try to capture the family market.

  4. A family friendly Dead Space 3 should fit in this category. ;)

  5. LittleBigPlanet Karting should be a hit. Only joined the beta last week but from what I’ve played could be the best karting game on PS3.

    • ia. i don’t like racing games too much, but the game seems pretty fun.

  6. Why shouldn’t they? They have some casual titles, we’ve got more serious games on the horizon, try and take advantage of this lul. Seems fair enough.

  7. I tend to agree Sony will have a more family orientated Christmas this year, especially if the current price of the ps3 drops to sub £150, more so if it goes under £100

  8. Sorcery 2 please Sony :D
