Some Alleged Black Ops 2 Leaks Emerge

Firstly, let’s get the disclaimers out of the way. We can’t vouch for any of this information, none of it is official and it’s all from an unnamed, unaccountable source. It was allegedly passed on to a guy at DualShockers, by one of his friends who works at Activision as an Associate Producer. It all sounds reasonable to me but it could just as easily be a load of old rubbish.

You should also beware of the spoilers that are included.

So, what are the leaks? Well, there’s loads of info from the single player campaign to start with. The story is said to revolve around Frank Woods, who is talking with Alex Mason and having flashbacks to his time with Raul Menendez, offering hints on how to defeat him. Menendez is a terrorist whose rise to power is charted in the flashbacks and his toppling from that power will be the focus of the modern sections of gameplay. He’s taken control of the world’s drone army (as you do) and started a world war, which is handy for a game that needs plenty of shooting. Cheers, Raul!

The single player side of the game now has perks, such as one which gives you extra strength and allows you to break into areas which are otherwise inaccessible and get better guns. You’ll also be able to dive into the prone position, if that’s your thing.

There’s a big list of single player locations, some of which we’ve seen already and some of which seem to be based on speculation:

  • Afghanistan – This is where the horseback riding is and features the Mujahideen in a flashback mission, apparently.
  • Angola – The original post says this is “Rumored to be the first mission” but we’re not sure where those rumours come from.
  • Panama – This is another flashback mission to Noriega’s control and the 1989 mission to invade Panama, capture Noriega and disparage his name. Allegedly, it’s called “Let it Snow”, which is possibly a reference to the brisk drug trade going through the region at that time. Ends in a bit of a mess, I won’t spoil it completely (but the original post does).
  • Haiti – No details but speculation that this is the final mission. No evidence though, so keep your pinches of salt close by.
  • Pakistan – Again, nothing solid but speculation that this is a modern mission.
  • Al Jinan – A floating city in the middle of the ocean. Obtain information on a weapon called “Karma”, which is a kind of dumb and insulting thing to call a weapon but hey, that’s westerners! Apparently this features undercover operation, nightclubs and some moral choices which impact the game’s ending. Apparently.
  • U.S.S. Barack Obama – An aircraft carrier where Menendez is being interrogated. It gets attacked and he attempts an escape, allegedly with you in control of him.
  • Singapore (Strikeforce mission) – there have been dodgy gameplay videos that are probably from this level.
  • Yemen (Strikeforce mission) – No information at all on this one.
  • Yemen (Non strikeforce, regular mission) – Apparently features a tough moral choice (again, I won’t spoil something this big but the original posting does).
  • Nicaragua – This is another ’80s flashback, apparently.
  • Myanmar – You’re sent to obtain a rare element and have to fly in with a squirrel suit. This must be a modern mission because in the ’80s Myanmar was still called Burma.
  • Los Angeles – We saw this at E3, there were trucks and jets and much cheering from the audience.

The multiplayer side of the game is also blown wide open in this alleged information leak. Nuketown will apparently make a futuristic appearance and you’ll have the choice to add more perks at the expense of weapon slots so you can forego a primary weapon to add an extra perk, for example.

There’s a list of some primary weapons:

  • Assault Shield – we saw this in action in yesterday’s trailer, you can pin it into the ground and take cover behind it.
  • SCAR assault rifle
  • Vector K10 SMG
  • Ballistic Knife
  • AS-50 sniper rifle
  • MP7
  • Storm PSR
  • Crossbow with explosive tip

And a smaller list of some secondary weapons. This is all quite standard stuff, I think.

  • SMAW
  • Five-Seven
  • Barreta burst pistol
  • RPG
  • Stinger Missile

Then there’s the usual range of grenades and that tomahawk, or “combat axe” as this alleged leak calls it. Some locations are also given up, I’m not sure what’s already been shown but some of the descriptions in this sound similar to clips from trailers and they tie in quite reasonably with the single player locations so it’s all just as likely as anything you’re reading here. Quoted from the original post:

  • Cargo / Dockside – Play through a Singapore shipping yard. Same as the strikeforce mission in single player
  • Aftermath – Play through some ruins of Los Angeles.
  • Hijacked – A close quarter map that takes place on a Yacht.
  • Slums – Play though slums in panama.
  • Drone – Play through a complex with docked aerial drones.
  • Power plant – Play through a Pakistan power plant.
  • Nightclub – Play in a nightclub from the Al Jinan single player campaign .
  • Overflow – Takes place in Pakistan on in a business district.
  • Carrier – Takes place on an aircraft carrier U.S.S. Barack Obama from single player.
  • Turbine – Takes place in Yemen in a valley with crashed windmills.
  • Yemen – Takes place in suburban Yemen with close quarter buildings.

Plenty of the Killstreaks and perks are also listed, including the fancy new microwave turrets we saw in the multiplayer trailer reveal. There’s also mention of drones, obviously and various remotely directed rockets and other methods of death from above. Some of the perks listed will give you quicker reload times and better resilience against tactical grenades, too.

Finally, the zombie mode returns with at least one new feature – the ability to become infected and play as a zombie, scratching at players from the other side of the conflict.

As I said, it all sounds reasonable enough to me but until it’s made official, treat this information with caution.

  1. Nuketown is confirmed as a pre-order bonus. All the stuff above sounds like it’s real, although it will be interesting to see how the gun-for-perk system will be balanced.

Zombie stuff sounds weird, but cool.

Wonder if they’ll stick with the killstreak structure of MW3, which was a massive improvement, I thought. That system actually rewarded you for playing the objective and assisting your team.

    • I know Nuketown is confirmed but the notion that this is a futuristic version of it is new, isn’t it? Or did we know that?

Online shooters are completely not my thing :-/

      • No its not new if you check the pre-order it says nuketown 2025 aka futuristic nuketown.

  2. Can’t believe you guys didn’t know about the Nuketown 2025 news….that is for certain real: http://www.callofduty.com/blackops2/nuketown2025

  3. Zombie info sounds like fun

    • Looking forward to playing this with you dude :)

  4. Yeah its even mentioned at the end of the multiplayer trailer with big lettering! :P

  5. I really doubt that U.S.S Barrack Obama is real since Activision of all people know that newspapers will blow that completely out of proportion.

    • Exactly – Creating headlines & generating buzz about the game.

      Sounds completely feasible to me.

  6. Marketing for dummies, building the hype of the Activision money machine:

Lesson 1: Leak some pictures and some stats
Lesson 2: ….. ( you lot help me with this)

  7. Certainly has me more excited than MW3. I didn’t even consider buying MW3, but BO2 is getting me intrigued.

  8. Im not going to sit here and bash COD did it at year and ending up buying it on release like most people! but i for one am really intrigued this time the last time i was truely excited for a COD game was World At War! Cant Wait

    • I’m not bashing but hopefully there won’t be so many problems online this time. Haven’t played a COD game since black ops but this might get me back into them and FPS’s again.

  9. Read just about everything on the GAF list. Can’t say I was surprised by anything.

With that said, BO2 is the CoD I’ve been most excited for since WAW.

  10. I’ve not been interested in the least, but I will get it, if I can get it for £25 or less

    • I said that about MW3 – Got bought it as a gift in the end. Still haven’t played it.
