Retro City Rampage Locked For Next Week, But Not For Europe

The simply fantastic looking Retro City Rampage is out next week, according to PlayStation. At least, in the US – European gamers on PS3 will (predictably) have to wait a little bit longer.

“Retro City Rampage is finally launching October 9th on PS3 and PS Vita in North America and on PC, Steam and GOG worldwide,” says the PR. “The European PS3 and PS Vita releases will follow later this month, WiiWare following shortly after that. The XBLA version is 99.9% ready to get out the door, but still waiting for a release slot.”

The developer made the decision to launch on each platform as soon it’s ready rather than holding the versions that have passed certification for one big launch, which is exactly the way multi-platform and multi-region releases should be done.

  1. Can’t wait for this. A great game for the Vita.

    • Yep. Hopefully SCEE don’t totally mess this up and it’s months late.

I’ll probably get it on my US account just in case.

      • I think that would be the safest option bud, better to edge your bets based on past performance.

      • Just remember that it won’t work on your Vita then with the one account shenanigans.

      • Yeah, I know. =(

    • Indeed! I just hope it will be buy once, get both (PS3 & Vita).

  2. At least there is a rough date, ‘later this month’. Better than just ‘soon’!

    • The real issue is (apparently) MIcrosoft have been holding this up for ages, demanding a ‘same day’ release across all formats. The developer just decided to say bollocks and release it on the PS3 anyway as it’s been ready for ages.

So, if it’s been ready for ages on PS3, why the SCEE delay?

      • Bloody heck! if true. MS shouldn’t dictate when a game should be released on all platforms. If they threaten to not allow it, then it’s their loss and would probably cost them more then it would the publisher. It will be interesting to see what MS will do regarding the different format release.

  3. I need to top up my psn.. I saved some money for Jet set radio but that has no date & killzone HD this month oh boy!

I will get this just for the vita, doesn’t look ps3 appealing

    • Abd ME1 soon as well :)

    • Ditto, more like something better suited for a handheld.

    • Jet Set Radio is already out on PS3, with PS Vita coming on the 16th of this month. Less than two weeks.

      • Oh yeh I know it’s out on ps3, I want buy it on the vita. It looks OLED pretty

  4. This looks like a blast and getting both Vita and PS3 versions together is another awesome deal!
One thing though and it’s probably my age but some of these retro tunes are beginning to offend my ears.. a bit like that South Park episode.. :)

  5. Is the whole game played through that fake TV screen? IE not full screen?

  6. Who wants to bet on SCEE cocking up and we not seeing it untill they decide to sort out the mess? Minium bet is 1 biscuit. Or a cup of tea. *puts down 90 biscuits and 10 boxes of PG tips*

I would like to hear a reason for the delay as i’m not sure if retro city rampage requires a translation or not.

  7. PS+ for the vita? *hint hint*

  8. Isn’t the “developers” for this game just one guy? I think I remember watching a video about where this guy said it took him 6 years to develop it.
