At launch, Guerilla Game’s Killzone Mercenary will feature three multiplayer game modes stretched across six unique maps.
The much-anticipated handheld shooter will feature a fairly hefty singleplayer component, complemented by a suite of online options. The three modes on offer include Mercenary Warfare (your bog-standard free-for-all deathmatch), Guerilla Warfare (Team Deathmatch) and Warzone.
This last mode will be familiar to fans of the series, throwing two teams of mercs into a battlefield with five dynamic objectives to complete. In past iterations these objectives have included the assassination of VIPs, protection of bomb sites, and procurement of propaganda. It is without doubt Killzone’s marquee online mode and will hopefully translate perfectly onto the Vita.
The maps, based on various locales from the game, include Shoreline, Marketplace, Zenith, Refinery, Skyline and Inlet.
Killzone Mercenary is due to launch in September. It’s the third major FPS to arrive on the platform: Resistance: Burning Skies and Call of Duty: Declassified were both released last year to middling/poor review scores.
