PS4 Games To Have £60 Suggested Retail Price

The SRP of certain PS4 games – including DriveClub and Killzone: Shadow Fall – will be £59.99, though Knack will be slightly cheaper at £54.99.

It’s no surprise that the retail price point will be a bit higher than the current generation (FIFA 14 on PS3, for example, has an RRP of £54.99), though what is surprising is that Sony aren’t selling first-party exclusives for a bit less. It truly seems that Sony will be looking to make their money from the games rather than the hardware, as they previously stated.

It’s not a massive deal, as although retailers such as GAME will sell the games for at least £55 at launch, the prices will certainly realign with the current £40-45 set by retailers for PS3 games in the future.

It’s something that happens with every console generation – even the Wii U’s games were around this mark at launch – but don’t expect to be getting your PS4 games as cheap as their PS3 counterparts just yet.

This makes the Call of Duty and Battlefield 4 £10 upgrades seem all the more tantalising, as you’ll actually be saving money as well as getting the game on two platforms.

Sony also re-confirmed the £54.99 price point of the DualShock 4 and PS4 Camera, as well as pricing the stand and charging unit at £15.99 and £24.99 respectively.

So, it seems as though that Killzone mega bundle that they’ve just announced could actually offer savings of around £100, rather than £70-80.

Thanks, STN

  1. Knack is just about the only PS4 game I can’t find for a decent price. Already got Fifa 14 for £42, Killzone for £39 and Need for Speed for £39. Knack still seems to be about £50+.

RRP doesn’t mean too much in the UK but will probably mean digital prices will remain too high even on Sony games which are usually priced fairly well

    • Yeah and BF4 dropped to £40 a month or two back, on Amazon.

  2. My PC and Steam is sounding more and more appealing the more I read.

    • Steams prices are always the best though, their sales are insane.

    • Yeah, good luck with that. I’ll wait until the prices are more realistic before seriously investing in next gen.

      • That was my point. I have no idea how luck will improve my usage of Steam.

      • Sorry, the second comment was me thinking I wasn’t replying to anyone, just replying in general.

    • New games up on Steam would prolly end up being much lower than £60 too and there’s no next gen EDF 2025 so I can’t really justify Playstation 4 yet.

      • They announced a new Earth Defence Force for PS4! :)

  3. As long as the prices drop back down to something more realistic then it won’t be a huge problem, if however they stay high then I can see this being the last generation of consoles.

  4. Well I hope I get the chance to upgrade to the Killzone bundle (w/controller & camera) as £55 for a controller is ridiculous imo.

Not too fussed about the games, I usually buy special editions where possible, so this might make them seem better value. Also, this gen I don’t plan on buying as many games…I refuse to build up another backlog as I’ve done with PS2 and PS3, and I’ll get free games with PS+

Same here. Typically I buy any new games that appeal to me, but I find myself not really playing a lot of them. With this new gen I am limiting myself to 4 games a year, so I’ll only be grabbing games which I know are going to keep me busy for a long time and offer great value

  5. I’m seriously considering a proper move to PC gaming. The gap is narrowing significantly

  6. This is, and has been, the only thing keeping me from buying a next gen console straight away. Though PS Plus is around, it’s not going to offer a major variety on launch and at £50-60 per game, it’s too much for me. At least if I wait 6-12 months and enjoy a PS3, when I do buy a PS4 I’ll be saving money and getting some variety.

  7. The price for games here is normally lower than other parts of the world so us Europeans usually come out of it better than the yanks even though the initial layout for hardware is more here.

  8. I pre-ordered BF4 on PS4 for £42 on Amazon recently. cheap I think.

    • tried Flubit for BF4, £36.91, positive reviews but only better amazon prices now

  9. If the games are gonna look and play as well as I hope, I haven’t got a problem with paying a bull for one.

  10. If you can afford them then wait three weeks and they will be half the price. Not exactly the six month wait or so we used to have for price drops.

    • Something like that, fella. When their units shipped fall to a fraction of the initial sales, we’ll see the price drop to something acceptable, hopefully.

    • This. I haven’t bought a game at its original price in … ooh … I can’t even hazard a guess. Even The Last Of Us dropped by the time I bought it (and I picked that up relatively sharpish as soon as it hit).

This is probably more to do with the fact that I have a backlog of 300+ games and Son of Kovacs takes up most of my spare time. How and ever, if being frugal is your thing, surely waiting a few days isn’t a big deal. Is it?
