PS4 Outselling Xbox One 3:2 In The UK, Sony Aiming To Reclaim The Market

At their press conference this morning, Sony revealed their massive turnaround this generation for the PlayStation brand in the UK, achieved by some smart marketing and great decision making in the lead up to the PS4’s release.

Sony’s UK MD Fergal Gara talked of their wish to reclaim the UK market, as well as act like a new challenger, highlighting their OXO tower takeover as part of their overall strategy.

This means that while last generation the Xbox 360 was outselling the PS3 in the UK at a 1.51:1 ratio, Sony are now ahead with the PS4 outselling the Xbox One at a 3:2 (1.5:1) ratio.

They also suggested that a huge leap in PlayStation Plus subscribers – as you can see in the background of the photo from the event above – was due to not only the online play requirement, but also partly down to value which the service offers.

Before moving onto the Vita Slim reveal, Gara also repeated the 4.2 million sales figure, before emphasising that this is while being unable to meet the full demand and still having more markets – including Japan – to launch in.

  1. They are doing a lot better job this time round, well done Sony.

  2. Well done, though they were helped by ms’ numerous gaffes last year.

  3. Good news for Sony, hopefully they can get the company back on track after their financial troubles recently.

  4. Its crazy to think this is the same company who released the PS3 all those years ago with next-to no games and a bloated price tag. Well done Sony, much better job this time around!

  5. good news for Sony. Let’s just hope it continues.

  6. They had a clear focus from the start. Professional, respectable representatives speaking on behalf of their product. Listened to what the gaming community wanted from a next gen games console. Incredible price and great games. Well earned.

  7. Go Sony! The best is yet to come. Can’t wait for Driveclub, Second Son and MGSV. I can’t imagine the PS4’s capabilities in the future.

Well done. It feels reminiscent of the legend that was PS2.

    Long live Playstation :-)

  8. In the past year Sony have gotten better and better. Long may it continue.

  9. I’m sure Microsoft will get a boost later this year when they get the TV service up and running.
But if the xbox does not catch up in terms of resolution / graphics soon, the constant bad press will play on a lot of people’s minds who are still to make a decision

  10. It seems Microsoft is repeating Sony’s bad in luck on their 3rd generation.
