Rock Band And Guitar Hero Are Rumoured To Return

Bloomberg have recently posted a rumour that multi-peripheral rhythm game, Rock Band, is to return to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

“According to a person familiar with the plan” the game will be designed by Harmonix. Just a few days ago new DLC for the old game has been released and the songs, “Rize Of The Fenix” and “Back To The Shack”, hinted at a revival of the franchise.

However, it looks like an old rival will also be returning as Kotaku are now reporting that “two separate sources” have confirmed that Guitar Hero will also be making a comeback this year.

The new game is said to ditch the characterised graphics of the original series in favour of “more realistic” visuals. Neversoft and RedOctane, the two studios that worked on the original games, have since been closed and it is said one of Activision’s West Coast studios are working on the new game. The rebooted Guitar Hero is also rumoured to come with new peripherals and is scheduled to be revealed at this year’s E3.

“We don’t comment on rumour or speculation,” said Activision, “But have previously said, that as one of the most beloved entertainment franchises, we would only bring Guitar Hero back if we developed the right innovations to usher the franchise into the new generation of gaming.”

  1. I still got Guitar Hero for my PS2 XD but lost the game :( (think it was broken)
Wouldn’t mind getting it for PS4 if it has tons of songs and I was not happy with last gen due to so many DLCs…. so I sticked with PS2. Man that was fun! Think I’ll look at ebay for the game now xD

  2. No more bloody peripherals please! My PS3 graveyard box of PSeye, Move, Singstar mics, Guitar Hero guitars and Buzz buzzers, just got dumped in the garage!

  3. If they do what Ubisoft did, use a real guitar this would be an instant buy

    • I believe Rock Band 3 did that…

  4. I bet this was a planned move….let the franchise go silent for a few year and then UPPERCUT ! We are back in business !

  5. The games got so old because of the song choices. I’d rather prefer that they would get more unknown music into the main game than staying safe with chart hits and keeping them hidden through a in-game dlc store.
