Sony Registers A Trademark For Syphon Filter

Two days ago Sony registered a trademark for the PlayStation franchise Syphon Filter. The last game in the series, Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow, was released on PS2 and PSP way back in 2007 and was developed by Sony Bend who are currently working on Days Gone.

The old games, which were released on PS1 and PS2, and not available on the PlayStation Store so this might be for a re-issue of one them. Alternatively there is the tantalising prospect of Sony revealing a new game at the PlayStation Experience in December, but they have said we shouldn’t expect much in the way of new titles at the event. The last time we heard any rumours of a Syphon Filter game was over six years ago when Sony Bend were said to be working on a PS Vita title.

  1. Would love to see Gabe (and his amusing running bottom swagger) and Lian Xing return. Syphon Filter games were really good. Many an hour I spent searching for the scientists in the white coats, running down tunnels and catacombs (well you had to be more stealthy in these areas otherwise mission over) and who can forget the joy of the taser. Stun the enemies? Nah, just tase, keep your finger on the trigger and recall the fire and wails of agony as the baddies, quite literally, went up in flames. I’d love to see this series back.

  2. I’d totally be up for a new game in the series!
    The PSP games were brill.

  3. PS4 Syphon Filter? … YES!

Hopefully this is not some kind of ancient registration being fulfilled because of hopeless postal service, but really a sign of an upcoming game. Fond memories of the previous installments and a modern version will be highly appreciated.

  4. Bring it. Syphon Filter was a fantastic series. Looking back, even though released before the latter, sits nicely between MGS and SC.

  5. Yes please! They are still great fun!
