What Japan Bought Last Week

Call it a slow news day. Blame the fact that it’s the first time in recent memory that Sony products have commanded 50% of the chart (given, I have the recollection capacity of a goldfish with Attention Deficit Disorder), but here’s a look at that the Japanese gaming public bought last week in the Land of the Rising Sun.

  1. [DS] Pokemon Ranger: Tracks of Light
  2. [PSP] .hack//Link
  3. [Wii] New Super Mario Bros. Wii
  4. [PS3] Nobunaga no Yabou Tendou
  5. [DS] Dragon Quest IX (Ultimate Hits)
  6. [DS] Tomodachi Collection
  7. [PSP] Kenka Bancho 4
  8. [PSP] God Eater
  9. [Wii] Wii Fit Plus
  10. [PS3] Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition

If you’re wondering what the hell Nobunaga no Yabou Tendou is, it’s a turn-based strategy game and the latest in a popular series from Koei. The title translates as Nobunaga’s Ambition: Heaven. Tell me about it, Nobunaga. We also see the rehash of Resident Evil 5 sneak into the chart.

A strong week for the PSP, too, with the latest in the seemingly never-ending .hack series charting very well. //Link is apparently the last in the series, though we have a sneaky suspicion that this just a ploy to make the universe’s fans purchase the title out of blind fanboyish support. Looks like it’s working.

Kenka Bancho is a popular school-based smack’em-up. No, you read that right.

Finally, God Eater, Namco’s retort to Capcom’s runaway Monster Hunter series, is still selling extremely well. Those crazy Japanese do love their monster-themed smackathons.
