Microsoft Responds To Mass Effect 2 Heading To PS3

Not everyone was overjoyed with the news that sci-fi epic RPG Mass Effect 2 will be docking with the PS3 this January. After all, the game is synonymous with the Xbox 360 platform and one of the best reasons to own the console. Responding to the game spreading its console wings, Microsoft are still bullish that if you want the “full Mass Effect experience”, the Xbox 360 is still the place to be. A Microsoft representative spoke to IGN, stating:

“With both Mass Effect titles launching first on Xbox 360 combined with the wealth of available paid downloadable content on Xbox Live today, Xbox 360 remains the best place to experience the Mass Effect franchise.”

And just to put this one to bed. Yes, Mass Effect 1 appeared on the PC and was ported by EA. But, no, there is no possibility this game will also jump space-ship to the PS3. Microsoft put up the coin for the first game and they own the publishing rights. They just don’t own the IP – hence why this January is looking awesome for PS3 owners. The spokesperson has confirmed the status of the first game’s future by stating:

“The original Mass Effect is absolutely an Xbox 360 exclusive, making Xbox 360 the only place to get the full Mass Effect experience.”

That’s that. Right?

  1. So they’ll have to make a special prequel for the PS3 with updated game buld..

    • Exactly what I was thinking. I mean what can they do if they rename the game, update a few things so that ME1 doesn’t seem so outdated compared to ME2. Am I imagining that I read somewhere about ME Genesis? (Or is that meant to be ME3?)

  2. Microsoft dosen’t own the rights to the franchise so EA could port ME1 over to PS3 if they wanted

    • If you read lower down the article Mr Stripey Socks, Microsoft own the publishing rights to Mass Effect 1, so EA cant port it or publish it anywhere only Microsoft can :)

  3. Mass Effect is currently 3 quid new on Amazon for PC, so Ill probably get that before getting Mass Effect 2 this January.

  4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma says hello!

  5. What would actually stand in the way of Bioware releasing Mass Effect 1 in another form, like White Knight Chronicles. I fail to see how this situation is that simple. Bioware own the property completely.
If they reissue mass effect 1 in such a way, it’s no longer the same game that was published. It’s still however the same creative property which they have complete control over but microsoft doesn’t.

I want word and will wait for word straight from Bioware on this.

    • they could call Mass effect the beginning
