As hoped, Japanese magazine Famitsu has this morning confirmed the existence of HD remakes of both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.
We’ve been discussing the remakes (previously thought to be called the Team Ico Collection) for months, after we claimed we’d heard of a ‘Q1 2011‘ release date.
Yesterday’s apparent box art reveal just added to the evidence, but these two pages in this week’s Famitsu have finally sealed the deal.
It appears that, at least in Japan, the two games will be released separately, although we’re still expecting a double pack here in the West. The games are listed as TBA, which is also currently true for The Last Guardian, also featured in the magazine.

Interestingly several outlets (thehut.com and shopto.net) are offering pre-orders on the Last Guardian for a 2011 release, and simplygames.com will even deliver it by 24/10/2010!!!! Amazing :-)

great news, finally some solid evidence. really looking forward to this as i still have my ps2 under the tv and the only two games not boxed away are ico & sotc.

played the ico demo that came with a magazine back in the day, didnt get on with it, but then again, didnt play too many games back then. looking forward to this

There were quite a few things I had to look up with Ico. Don’t be afraid to refer to things as it’ll infuriate if you don’t get on with the game itself.

I didn’t struggle too much and thought some of the puzzles were quite ingenious in Ico and so felt really proud of not having refered to strat guides for it.
Then I realised that 20 odd years of shoving boxes,pulling switches and climbing stuff in games had just made some sort of pavlovian-puzzle-chimp out of me and felt markedly less chuffed.

Hmm, looking forward to seeing the scanned version of this, I’ve got high hopes for SotC in HD. Here’s hoping they sell it as a double pack here, something else would be kinda disappointing to be honest.

I remember watching a mate play Shadow of the Colossus back in uni, it was such an epic game, I imagine it will be even better in HD.

Nice one, I completely missed out on these games on PS2 so this will be a day one buy for me. Let’s just hope SCEE are able to release them before The Last Guardian! Although to be fair it’s probably not as important as it was for GoW 1&2 as I don’t believe they are direct sequels.

It’s impossible to see from those scans, but I’m hoping these are really jazzed up from PS2, like the Sly Collection looks to be.
