Flower Recreated In LBP2

It’s Flower in LittleBigPlanet 2. How the creator ‘RAPHEAI’ has managed such an astounding feat is probably not worth thinking about as I have been trying to work out how he has done it and my brain is starting to leak out of my ears.

I think that he’s taken the top down racer format and altered the camera angle somehow. What this means is that LBP2 games could be ‘proper’ in-to-the-screen First Person Shooters.. or racers… or RPGs… or…  anything really. To quote Kylie, “Wow!”

  1. The Possibility of an LBP FPS is exciting

  2. it only does everything…

  3. i wouldn’t have thought something like this would even be possible, but there it is.

  4. “How how how”

Tuffcub, I thought about the top-down racer-type view, but how would the water work like that?

    I’m confuzzled.

    • Yeah me too.

    • I don’t know how it moves into the 3rd dimension, but the foreground objects (petals in this case, or the gun in an FPS) are utilising a ‘bug’ that was present in the first LBP and is still there in LBP2

    • It definitely uses the additional front/back layers glitch to get the 3rd dimension. Most probably, the objects with the attached grass (or actually feathers) and flower decorations are emitted in the back, and moved towards the front layer with the new in/out mover tool.
The collected petals seem to follow (with the follower tool) an invisible object made from holographic material with a flower decoration, which is controlled via a direct control seat and the advanced mover tool. Each collected petal/leaf could be attached to (maybe several) rotating discs made of holographic material to get that effect.
      It’s brilliant :)

      • Just what I was thinking! ;) [Thanks for the explanation]

  5. How can you make that so great. I’ve tried making a minigame but can’t make it happen with out it beeing screwed up.

  6. That is Freakin’ unbelieveable!

  7. As technically outstanding as this may be, what’s the point?

    • That’s what I was thinking when I read your post… Without the technically outstanding part of course.

      • No need to be like that, he has a point. It’s cool and impressive but kinda pointless.

    • What?

  8. Wow, that’s alot like the actual game!

  9. Imagine what they’ll be able to create when the full game is released.

  10. I am impressed, but also can’t help but think with all these new LBP2 things… isn’t the original better? Yes it is impressive that someone recreated it, and maybe I’m missing the point, but I would still rather play the original Flower.

    • Yes orginal flower is better – I think you should view it more as a tech demo- up until this point we (as in erveryone) didnt think you could do “in to the screen” First person or Third person type games in LBP. Turns out you can.
