Stacks Of ‘Xperia Play’ Images Released

Despite not actually being announced yet, it seems Sony Ericsson’s ‘Xperia Play’ has made its way to the marketplace in China. Website ‘ePrice’ promptly went down to have a look, and have taken an absolute truckload of shots. I’ve uploaded several here, but click on the source link for the entire batch.

It’s looking more and more likely that the phone will be officially revealed at the Mobile World Congress next month.

  1. That would continue to be looking pretty real then. Maybe they’re going to announce it alongside the PSP2 on the 27th.

    • Na i doubt it. When Sony announce the PSP2 there going to want all the focus to be on the PSP2.

  2. Urgh, it’s got bloody timescape on it.

  3. Sony’s marketing of this device is phenomenal

Never before has a non-Apple device courted so many column inches around the world every single day.

I’m in two minds over this, on one hand its massively underpowered compared to every single 2011 smartphone & I do mean massively but on the other it has the joypad to actually make gaming possible.

If I was Sony I wouldn’t hope to make loads of money off games though as the pad will be a real boon to emulation. Also I’m unsure about the whole Pocket PlayStation thing, I really am not interested in Minis or little Android based games over the the iPhone’s App Store and it’s specs aren’t sufficient to even emulate the current old PSP.

    Hmmmm

    • I hear ya cc_star. I am looking for a change from the iphone and the D Pad will make all the difference for short blasts of gaming. That and this kinda acting as a mobile extension of my PS3/PSP make this really interesting. I mean SSF4 with a D Pad online with a PSPhone would be awesome……

I will never ever part with my PSP Slim as I have far too many UMD games. But I would like this as well as my PSP.

I think I will get it when it comes out though, thinking about it. If they launch something like Itunes and they dont price themselves out of the market they could be good to go :-)

  4. I found it for sale on the Chinese eBay equivalent for about 600 quid.

  5. Not really interested in this, the phone I have now does everything I want a phone to do.
I the phone looks modern when closed but the style of the slide out bit (pic 4) looks rather 90s-ish.

  6. I think the main thing everyone is forgetting here is the actual Android aspect of the phone. Android has HEAPS of awesome games (Angry Birds, Nova etc) which will be fully compatible, AS WELL AS PSOne game and minis.

    Count me in ;)

    • But I think this PSOne application will be sold eventually on the Android store anyway, so you only pay for the cool buttons.. Would rather have a nice slick phone with dual-core and better screen and the PSone app with screen controls..

  7. Hopefully my next phone – the hope goes out to whether it’s got a good enough contract and also that the phone is brilliant.
