It’s a little rough around the edges, but here’s a look at the most important thing about Sony’s new NGP – the games. Keep an eye out for Killzone, Resistance, Gravity Daze, Reality Fighters, LittleBigPlanet, Little Deviants, WipeOut, Uncharted, and Hot Shots Golf among others.

And, yes, you also get to see how the back-tracking pad can be utilised, not to mention its motion controls and how the capacitive screen can be integrated into games with more traditional control systems.

  1. With two thumbsticks, first person shooters can actually be played on the PSP. Both Killzone and Resistance look exceptional, even though they are probably in their early builds. Not sure how the trackpad will be used in some of these games however.

    • The thing is, you don’t HAVE to use the trackpad in every game, no more than PS3 games have to use sixaxis or move.

      • Divide the back pad into top/middle/bottom and left/right. Use that to control flashlight/reload/weapon etc.

        That could allow you to control more things without releasing the analog stick.

    • Yeah actions like changing weapons, reloading and zoomingwhen using a scoped weapon could be utilised well with gestures on the rear trackpad.

    • I hope call of duty comes out on this! :)

      • Well apparently Activision did say so. This might just make the PSP2 sell like hot cakes.

  4. As big a playstation fan I am, I get the feeling they are starting to milk their series’. There’s KZ, Resistance, LBP and Uncharted, and they have games that aren’t even out yet on PS3* and then having even more future ones here. Kinda wish there was something new there that wasn’t wierd japanese rubbish, but hey it’s early days.

    *Except from LBP, that came out last week

    • As a company, you have to expect that, with new hardware, they’re going to pimp out their franchises. It’s standard practice. Look at the 3DS. A lot of the games announced are tried and trusted franchises. These are the games people want to play because they are fans of the series. By creating a new game of an existing property on a new platform you are enticing the fans of said series to buy the system.

      100% common sense.

      • Yeah, you’re right about that. (It was because of Resistance, Motorstorm and Ace combat I got my original PSP!) Was just hoping for something fresh.

      • Gravity Daze, Reality Fighters, Little Deviants – there will be a LOT more coming.

      • Little Deviants looks like it could be great, sort of like 3D Loco Roco. (Although hopefully there will be a Loco Roco 3 on NGP that uses the tilt sensors)

        With a bit of luck we’ll see more original games at E3 (are there any other game shows coming up before E3, by the way?)

    • But remember that aside from Killzone, all those franchises you mentioned are new IP’s from this generation. It could even be argued in a sense that Killzone was only popular with this generations game and as such is really a PS3 generation IP.

      I expect more from Sony over the following years, they’ve already produced some fantastic properties this gen (including inFamous, a NGP version must be on the cards) and I reckon they’ll continue to innovate.

    • Quite right, I mean look at Nintendos 3DS line up with all their orginal new IPS.. oh.

      • and where did I mention anything about the 3DS having better games than the NGP? I’ve never owned any nintendo products apart from a GBC which I had like 2 games for.

  5. I wonder if there will be ‘classics HD’ on this? Like remakes of chains of olympus and that other GoW PSP game.

    • What with the NGP being backwards compatible with downloadable PSP titles, I highly doubt it. Too early to think about that sort of thing in my opinion.

    Anyway on a more serious note, the graphics are quite swish and a touch screen, trackpad and I assume an accelerometer.

    Cant’t wait.
