Oddworld’s Lorne Lanning has revealed that brand custodians Just Add Water are working on a remake of Abe’s Oddysee.
“Abe HD is going into production,” he said speaking to EGM in next month’s issue. “It’s basically Abe’s Oddysee being redone in a 3D physics engine as a 2D side-scrolling platformer.”
“So the way Just Add Water wants to approach it, we thought was very smart; they are not trying to reinvent any wheels. ”
“It’s like, ‘Can we make that experience in a new engine, with new tech, in the old way?’”
A quick chat with JAW’s Stewart Gilray reveals the game is indeed coming.

You’re wrong they will be available both from the store and via the new flash based media. Sony stated themselves that with the NGP they will still have physical media but will concentrate more on digital distribution a la PS Store.

Oh wow. I can’t see that being good though. You’re gonna need a huge memory stick to hold all the games if they’re near PS3 quality (we’re talking Gb’s!). And buying memory cards with games on in store just means you’re gonna end up carrying a dozen easy-to-lose memory cards wherever you go.

And another thing I was thinking about earlier is the heat generated. Even the PS3 with it’s internal fans over-heats occasionally, and if, as boasted, the NGP matches the power of the PS3, how is it going to handle the heat without a fan?!
And battery life will be a huge issue, but that’s something entirely different!

You can delete the games you are not playng and download them again when you want to play them..

@gazzagb, I doubt with such high qualtiy games it’s going to rely on just a memory card/stick it’ll probably have some sort of internal memory

I’m more excited about the fact they’ve placed the NGP on the same level as PS3, 360 and PC to be honest.

Nothing yet, apparently.
It was reported as PS3, 360, PC and NGP earlier, but that’s been amended now.

Hope it’s coming out on PS3. If it is, I’m glad I didn’t buy any of the PS1 versions from the store!

Bought the first one on the store just to show support for the game, just in case it could spur on a remake like this :)

brought the first one too to play on the psp. the lack of L2 and R2 buttons severely hinder the playability. On the PS3 it still looks good and is very playable.
