Four Minutes of Resistance 3

Yesterday we posted up 91 seconds of footage of Resistance 3 as part of the PlayStation Experience media blow-out, but how about four whole minutes of Chimera-crunching action? Behold!

We got a look at Resistance 3 in London this week, and though you can expect our preview to go live real soon, as a sneak peek, when Nofi mentions on Twitter that what he saw was one of the highlights of the event (and he saw everything from MotorStorm Apocalypse’s thundering assault on his unwary eyeballs, to the poignant beauty of Journey) you know Insomniac mean business this time.

  1. Looking good :) reminds me of one of the battles in resistance 1 in terms of the surroundings… which I hope is a sign that they are going more R1 style than R2 as the second just didn’t feel right to me. Great online though in the second.

    • It brings back the R1 style health pickups because Capelli is not half chimera and doesn’t have a rebounding health bar.

      • Yes he is. He was part of the Sentinels team in Resistance 2, which was made up of people who, like Hale had been infected, but not turned into Chimera (yet). So, how it works within the story that his health no longer recharges is yet to be seen.

Another point is that R1 had both health packs /and/ recharging health. The health packs would recharge 1/3rd of your 3 part bar of health, and you would recharge to the top of each bar, but no further. Sorry, that’s a terrible explanation, but even so.

I’m curious to see where this will lead, but I think it could be a good thing. We’re definitely headed back to R1 with holding many weapons too.

      • Teflon is pretty much spot-on. I loved it to be fair. The four-part health bar meant you still had to behave but could take a bit of a slap here and there.

  2. Looks incredible. Insomniac have set themselves up with two beasts this year and I, for one, can’t wait to get my hands on both. Simply blistering, as you say.

  3. “Billy’s down” well that has to be the most understated line ever, looks like he’s had his head ripped from his body, no amount of health packs and bandages will sort that out.

  4. Looks intense, love it!

  5. What happened to site I’ve got a completely basic web page. with only one story on it? The header is a picture of a park? did the server crash or something?

  6. Not too sure about the health bar, Capelli has regeneration too, like all sentinels I thought?? Pretty sure in the fight against the mother spinner and he’s taken away by it, he says after that “The regen kicked in just in time”? Still, that is the best interface I’ve ever seen on an FPS, I hate the CoD/MoH style. The Auger’s new, looking for a word here, aiming-thing where what look like armour weak-points glow looks amazing. Everything about this screams ‘awesome’ to me.

    • Sorry for the double post, but I’d just like to add that I too have only a basic site view. But I’m liking the archive I can see on the right….

  7. Why is there a compass? Perhaps the levels are more ‘open’ and you have to navigate yourself to your next objective?

Looks fantastic!, alot like the original which is a good thing in my book. Hope they don’t bring back the menials though; I was almost too scared to complete it coz of those :P

    • and I see they’ve changed a few weapons back to what they looked like in Fall of Man, i.e. the Bullseye ;)

    • At a guess, I can hear the NPC guys mentioning things like “more of them to the North” or something similar. If so, even more context sensitive gun-toting tomfoolery. Yay!

  8. Bloody awesome! Love the amount of “chatter” from your mates, etc. Graphically, it’s throwing stuff around beautifully. The carbine is as pin-sharp as ever (yay!) and the take-down of Jade Goody at the end was superb. Have it! :-)

  9. Damn it, I really am jealous now.

  10. I for one preferred R2 over R1, I found it too be a better game in pretty much every way. Not that I disliked the health-bar, but I thought R2 was more polished in terms of gameplay, and the environment was much better as it had other colours than grey and brown, and had prettier graphics overall. R3 is looking great, and it’s another awesome piece of the money-based puzzle that is 2011.
