Warning: sodium chloride alert. It looks like a wily GameStop employee has snapped what appears to be the launch price (and date) of Sony’s NGP (the PSP2).
Promised by Sony to be “affordable,” the pocket-powerhouse is quoted with a price of $299.99 (roughly €219/£186).
As GameStop usually put a default placeholder of $999.99 on any product they don’t currently know the actual price of (you may have seen that story circling the interweb; we didn’t report on it for obvious reasons), this does appear to be at least plausible.
What does smell fishy is the release date, as launching on New Year’s Day 2012 (see image below)Â just doesn’t sound feasible. Not when, you know, a lot of stores are actually shut. Take this for what it is – a rumour.

Obi Trice!!
Spot on price – will snap one of these up fo sho…..

The price is brilliant and fit’s the “affordable” description. The date is the worry for me =/

If that’s true then it’s a day one buy and Sony have won the Internet!
Charmed_Fanatic
Good price! Hope they stick to it [or lower it!]
Grey_Ghost13
I would have thought that Sony would have wanted to release it either just before x-mass 2011 or not to far into Q1 2012 if the pre-xmass release schedule of big hitters looks a bit crowded.
That price news though is good!

Shops closed on New Years Day? Where’s that?
Kovacs
In a lot of countries only some stores are open on New Year’s Day.

300 wouldn’t be bad
InternationalGamer
I can get a PS3 for that price… but the PSP2 is very advanced in technology and all and the stuff you get, but it might be worth what you get, as long as there is a good launch title and good upcoming games.

£300 would still be a bit too expensive for me, but if it really is released at around £200 then I would snap one up. £250 is sounding more realistic, which I think is probably a fair price but not a great one, I can see it putting off a lot of people still.

I doubt that has any weight to it. Probably just there so staff can give some answer to questions they might get asked by people who have heard of it
